Osmolator problem after electrical surge

Roger,

My osmo is acting up after (i think) it was hit with an electrical surge. I was out of town at the time so not sure, but other items in my house were hurt as well so it seems pretty likely to cause it to me.

The issue i am having is when I plug it in it tells me the water is too high (loud beep, red too-high LED lit up). Playing with the sensor does nothing.

Any ideas what is causing this?
Please let me know if you need more information.
I'm comfortable with soldering if you know of a fix (if I gave you enough info to go on).

Please let me know.
Thanks,
-Brett

Brett,

How old is it? Newer osmolators are not easily repaired. If it is more than a couple years old it may be repairable, when they changed to surface mount it got very difficult to repair. Can you drop it off at AquaTek or here for me to look at?

probably close to the 2 year mark so i guess it's a toss-up. PM me your addy and I'll drop it off at a convenient time for you.

I'm confident with soldering on PCB's so if you can identify what needs replacing I should be able to do it..

Thanks a bunch

-Brett

That could be, usually the symptoms are a bit different though, the lights flicker and the behavior is a bit more erratic. A corroded wire or connector will also cause this. It has a safety that chuts down the controller in any condition where the pump could draw enough power to starve the logic board. I would think normally though the power surge would damage the transformer and not the board itself.
