Osmolator problem

Roger,

I have had my topup unit for about 8 months with no issues, I recently redid mysetup and now when I plug the unit back up it gives me a loud beep sound with both the too high and too low lights on.

I have checked the following

Sensors are both above water

Sensor orientation is OK

There is water in the top-up bucket and the pump is sitting on the bottom

I have cheked that the sensors are clean and the overflow protection sensor is not stuck

All wires/ connections in good shape

I have unplugged the whole unit and tried it on a seperate setup with same results ( beeping and lights )

The only thing diff is that I have zip tied the wires together to make things neater. Is it at all possible that the wires are maybe causing interference.

It is possible that it is interference. The float is magnetic in operation so any magnetic field can cause a problem, ballasts and pumps are the usual culprit but certainly a heavy power cord could cause a problem. You could test it seperately with just a tray of water and a rubber band to restrain the float, do this in the kitchen or a seperate room from the aquarium. Also, the optic sensor cable has four extremely fine wires inside of it. These wires can be damaged if crimped too hard.

The wires were zip tied to each other and not crimped

I undid the zipties and tried to run it with the same results

Any ideas whatelse it could be

Did you try it seperate from any new pumps or ballasts? It is worthwhile to test it in the kitchen with just a try of water and away from sources of magnetic interference. Otherwise you would need to send it in to the distributor in Canada for service.

You might also open it and check if their is any water damage, this is usually what causes this problem if it isn't magnetic interference.
