osmolator quit working

I have an osmolator that I have had for less than one year and for some reason it has quit working - the light will come on but the pump does not work - it has only been used in fresh RO/DI water so it is not calcium buildup - I checked the pump and there is nothing I can see stuck in the blades - is this likely the pump or are there other possible problems - all connections look good in the wiring - I have realized how great this thing is now that it is not working! - I hate having to do a few gallons of top off on my own everyday

I just re-did that little wiring coupler running to the pump thinking that somehow the connection may have failed - I re-stripped the wires and connected it again and this did not work - when I try to spin the blades of the pump (after unplugging it of course) it will spin but it seems to have some jerkiness of the motion - I doubt it has anything stuck in it as as I stated earlier this is in a large container of pure RODI water
how long do these pumps seem to last? I recall in the past reading occasional reports of them stopping but am not sure how long this happens after and if it is usually if they are run in salt water or kalk etc

The pump is likely bad, it is a simple DC motor behind a rubber seal, like the kind you find at Radio Shack for hobby projects. When this happens the seal has failed. The ones made since last November have a double seal for better reliability. You need a new pump. They should last about 2 years.

OK - thanks - I am very pleased to hear that Tunze realized that this is an issue and changed the design (added the second seal) to help prevent this - it shows that they care about a quality product - you hear about so many faulty products here on RC where the company denies that there may be an issue and refuse to modify their design to deal with it - thumbs up to Tunze!
