Osmolator water sensor dead

The optical sensor on my osmolator is completely dead. I've tried cleaning it thoroughly and taking it completely out of the water - it still registers as normal water level. The high level float switch works fine, so it is just the optical sensor. The unit was purchased along with a used Elos Mini, which is less than a year old. I don't have a receipt. Do I have to spend another $200 to replace this defective sensor or can I somehow replace this under warranty? If not under warranty, is there a cheaper option than buying a whole new unit?

I have 3 of these osmolators for 3 different tanks, ironically this is the newest one. The older ones have been working fine!

Thanks!

Yes, most likely it is just the capacitor that runs the optic sensor. We didn't change anything but the manufacture of the capacitor changed from paper insulation to plastic and on some this caused a bleed of current over time so the optic sensor no longer has enough power to work. Send it in, it is under warranty and if I can't repair it, I will replace it. We use another supplier now and went back to paper.

Hi Roger,

I am having the same problem. Over the weekend, the optical sensor has died and after cleaning and drying, it is still not working. I too do not have a receipt but the unit was purchased under 2 years ago. Is there a way I can send the unit in for repair? I understand if I need to pay for the repair since I don't have a receipt. Just trying to avoid buying an entirely new unit since everything else is working. Thanks!

Not necessarily, I can usually determine how old a product is by the production date and board version and we may be able to cover it with no receipt. Send it in, but please include the pump and power supply. Also include a note with your return address and phone number.

<- same problem here. I purchased it about a year ago, and now the sensor doesn't work anymore. However, I don't have time to send it in for repair and wait for a replacement as I am about to go on vacation. Is it possible to just simply order a replacement water sensor as opposed to sending in the whole unit for repair?

Thanks,
Ben

The sensor may not be the problem, there is a capacitor that powers the sensor that can also be part of the problem and these components have to be soldered to the board, the optic sensor has 4 very small wires. It needs to come back in.

Hi Roger. Any updates? I mailed the unit last Saturday via USPS Priority Mail, so you should of received it sometime during the week. Thanks again for all your help!!!
