We have had this Z4 pedal car for about 3-4 years and Tanis has decided she likes it again. I took a picture and had a great idea, a poster for Larry's office!

I was looking at camera's at Best Buy... The girls there confused me... I forgot which ones you told me to look at... I think they were a Sony and Nikon??? Ugh... Oh, cute picture BTW... :)

It was the Sony R1. That is about the only non dslr camera that I am familiar enough with to recommend. Though, I am not a huge fan of Sony's customer service

dslr is another brand??? Where do I find those??? Do you change out the lenses on the Sony R1... I want to make sure I have the manual focus option... Though I think auto focus is nice too... I want it all...

DSLR's are the ones that change lenses. I am 99.9% sure the R1 has manual focus on it.

DSLR's are great BUT you need nice lenses to get those really nice shots. Lenses cost more than the camera. So, if it is your thing to spend the cash on those sorta purchases, a DSLR is great.

Well, its Ashley's present... She'll just want it to take nice pics on our honeymoon... Oh and the camera she has now takes forever to recharge if you use the flash... Like 30 secs or so between pics... I just want it to take nice macro pics of my tank and corals...

llpoolej:

I have been thinking about getting a DSLR here shortly after the wedding and have been looking at the cannon Digital rebel xt and the Nikon D70s.

What DSLR would you recommend and in your opinion which of the two listed above would be better.

Brandon

All the DSLR's are good. You really can't go wrong with any of them. I chose the Olympus system due to the weather sealing(of both the E-1 body and lenses) plus the dust shaker on the sensor. Since I am in barns and outside in all weather, it is what put me over the edge for the system.

Canon users will say the Canon is better and Nikon user's will say the Nikon is better. If I were to change to a different system tomorrow, it would probably be to the Nikon D200. I personally like the out of camera color of the Nikons. I think they do less smoothing (noise reduction)

If you want to shoot high ISO often, no one beats canon. Though the Nikon D50 comes close. Canon is the high ISO leader for sure

I would go to the store and handle the D70 and Rebel XT. I personally like the feel of the D70 much better. I prefer the menus and it has a few more options the Rebel doesn't

Both are very good cameras and again, the ending image quality is going to be a mixture of what lens is used and your photoshop skills. DSLR's do much less in camera processing.

Are the old Nikon AF lenses still compatable with the new DSLR bodies? I've been contemplating the Nikon D series, but wasn't sure my old lenses would still work. Nikon used to be famous for not changing their lens mounts through the years, but since the world has gone digital, I'm not sure that still holds true.

Thanks Julie:

I had asked the media guys at my work and when I told them what I wanted they told me the white balancing features that were on the D70s vx the D50 would be worth the extra money.

Then followed to say that I would be better off taking the extra money and uptting it towards a high quality lense vs going to the D200 with an ok lense.

Would you agree?

Thanks again for your input.
Brandon

Yes, I would agree with them. The lenses mean more than the body. The D200 is a very nice camera, but so is the D70

A good macro, a good tele and a good every day walk around lens are the three you need the most. The f2.8(or even faster) lenses are what you really want to shoot for

Thanks... not something I'm going to order tomorrow, but is something I would like to order late september, early October and have been getting peoples opinions.

Thanks again for all your help.
