OT- any ATV enthusiasts here?

I know several people with automatic trans and several different brands. Polaris, Kawie, and Yamaha and the only issue I've heard of is getting the belt wet and having to change the belt. I can tell you from experience that I have had my almost submerged and had the belt slip a little after getting out of the hole. All I do is take the drain plug out of the case and get all the water out. Never had to change a belt yet. One thing to think about if you are worried about reliabilty on the auto trans is snowmobiles have been using them for years without any major chnages. The other plus is anyone like wife or girlfriend can get on and ride without having to learn how to work a clutch. Thinking of another place to check on prices is the Yamaha dealer in West Plains, MO I've heard they will wheel and deal with the best of them. If you want to check out some atv boards check out bluetraxx.com ( dedicated yamaha) another one is highlifter.com

Checked out the Grizzly 660 today. It looks like a top notch ATV. Holzhauers quoted me a pretty good price without me even haggling. I'll check out ProCycle as well.

How does everyone feel about the automatic transmissions? Any problems with them?

Years ago polaris was taking a lot of heat for the slipping belt, but that was 8-9 years ago and I havent heard much bad press since then, but if you do submerge above the vent area the belt might still have a slipping problem. Most of the time you would be in 3 ft deep water at that point and would have more trouble than a belt slipping !:eek1:

belt drive transmissions are great now,not for racing but for climbing and doing alot of driving,i was scared about buying the yamaha because of it but now that i drove it i like it.i just installed a new clutch kit in mine to make up for the big tires i put on it and got to see how it was built first hand, they are pretty beefy

excuses, its ok all you had to say was you cant keep up and I wont make fun of you I promise. JK Well atleast it wont be as muddy. I Hope.

Man I loved St. Joe.. We use to go all the time.. But we had to sell the bike when my wife went on bedrest with our 2nd Child. Didn't want to get behind on bills :(

I still can't decide what to get. I'm leaning heavily toward the Grizzly 700. But I just looked at the Arctic Cat 700 and it is pretty nice too. More expensive though. I think I can get a new Grizzly for about $7,100 locally. The AC is about $7,600. The Grizzly has the power steering, which is really nice. It turned much easier.

Does anyone have one of these yet?

ask yourself, how much power do i need,i had to do that before i bought the 700 and paid for alot more bike then needed
Steve is right. Thats a lot of bike and weight, so make sure its really what you want. If you are using it for hauling, hunting,in really muddy bad area's then it might be a good choice. If its more for pleasure and recreational i would say it too much bike, weight , $ , etc. But its your $ and your choice.

Are you guys saying you don't have to buy the biggest ATV available? I thought it was a man rule to get the largest one available.

Seriously, I'm a big guy and I don't want to get caught with not enough power. From what I have seen, they smaller ATV's are not that less expensive.

Personally I always am looking for more power. So I would not have an issue going for the 700 grizzly. I think that the fuel injection would be nice. Around here temp changes quickly and sometimes my carburated grizzly doesn't like the cold. The artic cats are huge and look nice but they also weigh a ton. As far as you being a big guy...I have a friend that is around 400lbs and rides a Kodiak 400 and it has enough power to take him anywhere he wants to go.

Hope this helps:cool:

Fuel injection would be very nice to have. Im so used to cold starting bikes and atv's, dont know what i would do with out having to use the choke constantly. Id say another 5-7 years and most will be fuel injected and bye bye carbs. Which means no more tapping on the float bowl to unstick the needle/seat.

my new bike has choke on the bars just turn it a little bit and hit the button, that was easier for me than spending $7000 on a fuel injection bike,i just went throught this with my dad and having to have the biggest engine made,he finally rode the 450 grizzly and then bought one, also keep in mind that atv's and motorcycles are the most depreciating things you can buy so the less you put into them the better, does your dealer let you test drive? ours here does and it makes people really get the feel of what they are looking for.

The wait is over. I bought it today. A 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 700. Now I just need the weather to cooperate so I can ride!

Congrads on the sweet new ride. Glad to see you went with the with the 700. Be sure to give us a ride report. How the power steering is.....

One thing I don't understand is the comment about the weather? It's an All Terrian Vechile! J/K   :D :D

Yeah but I hate cold. And it is supposed to be in the 20's this weekend.

In the few times I've ridden up and down my street, I like this ATV a lot. The power steering is sweet. Gotta break it in so I can open it up and see what it will do.
