Does anyone have any advice on how to hook a d-link wireless router to an actiontec modem with qwest dsl? I can get on the internet fine modem to computer. I get nothing when I plug the dsl into the router WAN and supply the computer from LAN. Im at witts end and qwest customer service wont help with 3rd party routers.

I went through d-links instructions on setting up dsl. Got the username and login from qwest and attempted to setup the router configuration by point of PPPoE. Nothing goes.

I pinged the computer IP address and it read, Ping the router and its a success, pinging the IP of the modem times out?

Anyone know of a quick fix or an Im an idiot cure that Im missing? I dont understand why qwest is so complicated, I hooked cincinnati bell up in 3 minutes in Ohio with the same configuration.

I also already changed the IP address of the router so it does not have the same address as the actiontec as defaulted.
 
I would try setting the router up to grab it's IP via DHCP from Qwest. That may help. Also, you may have done all this, but turn everything off. Then, turn on the modem Qwest provided, then the router after about a minute. Sometimes a reset like that makes thing a bit happier.
 
Have you logged into the Actiontec modem? I had Qwest DSL in Phoenix, and I think I had to log into the modem and reset something. Don't remember exactly what I did...
 
it should be setup like this.
Actiontec modem gets DHCP from QWEST on WAN side. The LAN side of that modem should be 192.168.0.1. when you plug in a pc to the modem, you get an IP of 192.168.0.x thats good. now when you plug the router's WAN/Internet port into the same port you had the pc plugged into on the modem, the router should get an WAN ip from the modem. now, you need to set the LAN side IP of the router to something different, like 192.168.1.1, then enable DHCP on the router. this should give your clients IP's from the router.
 
Is the actiontec wireless? If not, have Qwest send you one and take out the D-Link, that is what I did.

it is not the wireless actiontec, as this is the stupid one I bought when we moved here and dont feel like paying for another one at the moment
 
you can buy a wireless starter actiontec from bestbuy for about 50 dollars and then just wipe out the d-link. I was told by Qwest that you could not run a router as it will nterfere. If you want to go that way I can help you set it up as I have done it several times you just have to access the modem itself
 
who ever told you that you can't run a router behind the modem was lying to you. I am running a linksys WRT300N behind an actiontec modem from qwest. Been doing that for 10 years. actually, my network looks like this....

Qwest actiontec modem> linksys switch>off the switch is a Voice gateway for VOIP, and then my Linksys WRT300N router>DLink GigE switch>Apple Airport Extreme> Apple Airport Express and Apple Airport Extreme, connected wirelessly to the first Airport Extreme. the airport express is connected to my RKE NET module so that I can get real time alerts from my Reef Keeper Elite.
 
this is an older copy, and doesn't include the switch behind the modem, and VoIP Gateway, but it gives you an Idea of what I was talking about.
