OT: Anybody into RC Helicopters?

Hello,
Just wondering if there is anybody on here that is into RC Helicopters? I am getting a Walkera 4#3B for Christmas.

Yup I am. I want one of those. I have a trex 450. I want to get a blade 400 or mcx both for different reasons. A guy I used to work with fly the large nitro ones and he is trying to get me to go that way as well.

No helicopters, but i do have RC boats of all types. I do have a couple gliders that are built up and a bunch of airplane kits on the shelf. I thought about helicopters but the pilot error is pretty pricey, kinda like reefing!

Oh yeah it is expensive. I haven't flown the rex much just a few hop ups and what not. I did pick up a sim and have been flying it like crazy so when it warms and drys up a bit I can be more confident. But just like reefing rc is addicting.

Tell me about it. I go from one expensive hobby to the next. The Walkera is going to be a huge challenge to fly inside until the weather warms up. I am going to fly the simulator a hole bunch so the Walkera doesn't cost a lot more to fix after the crashing. Hey smmscott do you know where there is a hobby store that might have parts to some of these helis? Dan.

I don't know if he is still on here but glalderman flies Turbine helicopters, talk about expensive last time I was at his place he had two of them!!!

Wow, turbine engines cool. I get enough of those at work though. Hey Scott that Trex 450 is a cool looking bird.

The helicopters themselves are fairly inexpensive. It is the radio gear that gets you. This is an area you get what you pay for. A decent heli to get started would be a coaxial something like the Blade cx or cx2 both made by e-flite. I would suggest going a bit bigger and getting the blade 400 this does the crazy 3d stuff like hover upside down and what not when you get good enough it has good part support in this area. It also comes with a good radio that you can carry on to other helicopters or planes. However anything with a single blade is alot harder to fly. If you want small and easy to learn look at the blade mcx. It is tiny fairly cheap and will let you know if you want to move bigger or not. Kind of like the 6 gallon aquacube.
As for stores in this are there is hobbytown USA and Parma hobby. I usually go to a place in columbus called Hurricane Hobbies. I usaully get my stuff online at readyheli.com or helidirect.com Both are good.
If you really want to look closer let me know or take a look at Helifreak.com or rcgroups.com Both are the R/c equivalent to reefcentral.

I have a real nice Electric Century Hummingbird (collective pitch) and 7-channel Futaba xmitter that I got several years ago. It's one of those ARF (almost ready to fly) kits. But after I sat down and looked thru everything, I thought.....man this is WAAYYYY to complicated for me. My buddy then told me those collective pitch helos are real hard to fly. Then of course I had visions of crashing a $400 helo on its first flight. So I figured I'd wait a little while before I tried to work on it.

Well....I never bothered to put it together. So it's still sitting in the original box in my basement. If anyone is interested in it, PM me. If there is any serious interest, I'll have to go dig everything out and come up with a very reasonable price.

Happy Holidays All....

I'm sitting here looking at a Blade CX2 with all the mods and upgrades that has been sitting in the box since last year. I can't get time to fly it, heck, I can't get time to list it on ebay! I don't even have the time for my RC cars anymore. Any free time I get is eaten up by the kids.

used to fly a raptor that i picked up for next to nothing at the local hobby shop cause some kid got in way over his head. ended up selling it cause i had more in crash kits than nitro.

7 channels, WOW. I am going to stick to this fixed pitch 4 channel till I can hover it and then move on to collective pitch. I hear you on not having time because of the kids. I have 2 girls and they keep me really busy.

Hey Dan!

I bought my "son" an eflite mcx for christmas.
My wife said that I bought it for me but i really bought it for him, i think. :)

I've been flying it for the past 2 weeks when he goes to bed.

I have an AXE CP its a lot of fun but I am looking for something that is a little more stable to run the axe is to lite any wind blows it all over the place
