god, i love that concept....because i used to keep recipes in my computer...but they don't take too kindly to batter under the keys...also...my laptop takes up too much space reserved for bowls....lol.

I've wanted a Kindle or one of it's competitors for a while but the iPad just has so much more going for it. It's just that if you don't want buggy beta garbage you need to wait for Apple to get to version 3 or 4 like the rest of their stuff before you will be happy with it.

I originally bought the K2 and it was perfectly fine, until the Dx came out, the screen was so much larger and I can enlarge the print and not have to turn the page so long. This is great when you are reading for a long time. The K2 is working out great as a cookbook, not much page turning.

The Kindle is a purpose-built reader. The iPad is a touchscreen PC. Very different devices despite seeming the same on the surface. If I wanted a reading experience, I'd get a Kindle even if the iPad wasn't so overpriced based solely on that function - the Kindle's screen has some pretty distinct advantages if all you want to do is read (in terms of eye strain and visibility in different lighting conditions.) Plus, the Kindle has a VASTLY longer battery life, because it doesn't have to spend energy to keep a screen backlit or keep a powerful processor running when all the user is doing is reading.

You're right about the Kindle being much better for reading. From what i was reading it really does excel at what it is made for. I'd love one but I can't get myself to spend that kind of money and still have to pay the same for a book.

If you want a glorified iTouch/iPhone the iPad is the way to go. I was considering one for photography but it can't multitask or run any version of photoshop so it would be pretty useless in that capacity. Guess I'll stick with a laptop.
