OT - ATT Uverse...

Is anyone else disappointed with this service? I just had it installed yesterday after dealing with Comcast and their crap, but I must say Comcast's quality is way better.
For starters, the Uverse picture is crap! Low contrast and blacks showing as green is a sign of poor video quality (almost like divx compression on a larger tv). On top of that, audio is mixed poorly resulting in constant volume adjustment. The interface is very similar to Comcast, but lacks a lot of the coveted Comcast features such as reminders and descriptions . As far as hardware goes, the DVR is half the size of the comcast DVR which is nice, but there is no clock (you would be amazed how many times you actually look at that clock). The modem is huge and you can only get signal to one TV. For each additional TV you have to have a box and pay extra (not uncommon for some providers, but not the case for comcast).

Now there good features as well that I don't want to leave out. The picture in picture surfing actually works (unlike Comcast) and is helpful in seeing the other channels while watching something else. Also, the DVR is much more capable than the Comcast DVR and the speed of the functions is much faster - not to mention it is also free (no monthly expenses)! The internet that is included in the price is also pretty decent as well.

Overall, I am disappointed, but it is still too early for me to have a responsible opinion. I just wanted to see how any one else felt about this service - excluding att or comcast employees!:D

I had it for a little over a month and hated it. I ended up going back with Comcast.

I hated the internet speed despite having their top package. My speeds were literally 1/4 of what I get with Comcast. Their channel guide I thought sucked as many of the series type shows seemed to be missing a year so you didn't know if they were reruns or new episodes thereby leaving you stuck to record all of them.

While I am not exactly happy with Cramcast and the bill, I do have their top package and am paying less than what I did with the U-Verse.

This is very disappointing to hear. I've really been looking forward to switching when it becomes available here.

People complain a lot about comcast but over all I've found their service extremely reliable. The only downside is the crazy prices they demand!

Same here. I was going to switch when we got it here in Chicago. My parents have the whole package from them and have no complaints. i have Comcast and am paying over $170.oo and it seems every couple months they add some crap to the bill.
Now it doesnt look like that great a deal if the service is no good.

Fixed some problems this morning...

1). They STILL do not support HDMI. It will work, but the picture will be pathetic (my problem). After switching to Component, video is much, much better (weird, I know). Upsetting, but will live with for now. Just have to use the receiver for audio.

2). You have to make sure your speed to your house is at least 40megs. They look for 30, but, more is better. The TV can use anywhere from 15 to 25 megs. I had the guy find me a new line until I finally hit 60 megs! Download speed is all over the place. Lat night I was hitting 18mb but now I am around 4mb (I ordered 3mb so not bad)

They lack the free movies that Comcast On Demand offered. I hate the fact that I just cant plug in a tv to the Coax and get up to 99 channels like comcast. My son likes to watch his sesame street in the morning... Iwill just have to get a digital antennae for that. Overall with the video problem somewhat fixed (I am a video guy and might be too picky) it is not that bad. I am paying less than what I was paying with Comcast for and extra service as well (high speed). I didn't go with HD becasue it is $10/month extra and is not as good as Comcast.

If you are looking to spend less money overall and wait out the bugs, then I would recommend it. If you are wanting the best quality overall regardless of price, stick with Comcast.

I am curious what you pay for your internet and TV combined? I thought about going with this over my dish. I have ATT for phone and DSL.

Just curious? What type of TV do you have? I have a 1080p and I have HDMI hooked up through ATT and I think it looks really good. Just my opinion.

I hate comcast, but I will admit, I've had ATT now for over 3 years. The price starts to trickle upwards after a a year or so and it starts to tick you off (it's what ticked me off about Comcast).

Sellout, I can't speak for fiji, but I can speak for me. I have ATT's highest HD plan (most channels they offer; their 250 channel plan that includes a DVR), they're upgraded DSL internet (I think it's 4.5 megs), and I also get home phone service from them. Average bill for me is $135 with all the taxes and such. It started out (3 years ago I know) at $99.

Fiji, I just went to the link that you provided. I find it rather funny that you have it and it is not available for me even though we live so close.

What the duece? I just went to the site as well did the same thing, and it told me it wasn't available for my location either.......but I already have ATT, so what the heck is all that about? jjjimmy, you can't be more then 10 minutes from me, so I have to imagine they offer something.

Is this U-verse crud something different then what was Dish Network? I don't get it.

Uverse is different from Dish...Uverse is TV and highspeed through the phone line.

Jimmy - I would call and ask. I had the same thing always happen to me until I decided to stop into an AT&T store one day. I was floored when she said it has been available in my area for the last few months.

On a side note: Despite what I read for the customer service, I must say it by far exceeds comcast. I just called and had my internet speed doubled for $5 more and they gave me every single movie channel free for a month...not bad - especially since it took less than 3 minutes to do!

funny i can say as well...i already have the ATT and yes when i go to the website it states that the service is not available in my area.

did you know they offer $10 internet? if you "google" search you can find it....yet no matter where the location is...it will tell you its not available in your area...so i called them to question that.....stating that i HAVE ATT, yet i want the 10 service...she stated that i must go thru the internet to obtain that....back and forth, back and forth....she coundnt help me...EVEN though i have service from them....again the internet states i cant get internet in my area....YET...the ATT building is O' only 2 blks from me.
they all SU*K in my opinion!
its time to give it all up and go back to rabbit ears! ugh.

PS wideopenwest is just as bad...i've never had comcrap so can comment on them.

we are stuck between paying too much and not getting good service...i should have invested in cable back when "ON TV" came around

rich

Racenrich - I would call back and get someone else. I got the discount over the phone after a few minutes of "persuasion"

Right now I paylike $12 for my phone line, $20 for my ATT DSL and $50 for my Dish Network. I have the 200 package, seems that I wouldn't be saving any money by going with them.

Its actually through fiber optic cable to be correct. That is why obe person a block east could have and your not available to it yet. AT&T has to run all that fiber optic line.

Madam is right. That is why I said phone line. You can run FO all you want, but if you then connect to copper into your house it defeats the purpose.

wow and I have been waiting for this for quite some time and this news of copper to the house makes me really upset.

I have never had any luck with ATT....their DSL to here SUXED...5 minutes to download a page and I get the "you're the last house in the city, on the line, etc. crud." It all goes back to the fact that they have you over a barrel and they know it. Check to see how your local city, state etc. add some unbelievable taxes to the mix and now Cook county wants their pound of flesh too. Forget it. Weird thing is, when I'm out in Arkansas, on my rural property, we only get "rabbit ear" TV and it makes me realize that basically we have (with Comcast) 998 channels of garbage. I'm just as happy with the 7 or 8 I get out there....when I watch TV. The fact that I don't have 1,000 channels to surf gets me off my keister and out of the house doing things. I will miss the internet though, they only have 1, yeah, just 1 phone company and they are a TOTAL MONOPOLY and treat you as such. Everyone out there hates them but has no choice and from what I understand, no other phone company is allowed to service the area, which I thought that was illegal. I may have to look into some other ways to connect to the internet....
