OT: Attention Gamers

All I can say is, for the people who only play games on a PS3, you really owe it to yourselves to give BioShock a try... it won lots of awards last year for good reason.

And tell me... how is GTAIV on the PS3? I'm tempted to rent a copy of it, just to compare against the 360 version.

From what I read in the reviews, the xbox version is a little more colorful, but the PS3 version runs much smoother...

That's odd, I thought many of the reviews favored the 360 version saying it was the smoother of the 2 games, especially the online stuff. Regardless, all the commercials for the game (GTA) seem to focus on the PS3 version of the game so who knows. I've played it on both systems. BOth seem just fine to me. I guess I would agree with Tony that the 360 version is a little more colorful, but to me, the game play seemed the same for both. I'll admit, I didn't try the online stuff for the PS3 though.

The reason the PS3 version runs smoother is due to the loading that is performed before playing the game, i think you may have to wait longer throughout the game on the 360 vs waiting on initial startup of the PS3 version...

I will admit, the initial load time on the 360 version seemed long. None of the other loads did, but the initial one did. I never noticed that on the PS3 version.

Yeah, this is what I have always heard about the different versions... it winds up being something like the same amount of actual load times, but the PS3 version gets most of the time tacked on right there at the first start-up of the game.

All I know is that I am having a helluva lot of fun with the game... me and some friends want to start playing the co-op stuff sometime soon, now that all of us are pretty much done playing through the story mode at least once...

Myself excluded, but is there anyone else out there with a PS3 that is counting down the days until MGS4 comes out?

You know, it'll probably be the one that will probably go down as "the GTAIII" of this generation of consoles... it could happen, I suppose.

It really looks wicked, and I hate to judge that as a good reason to want a game, but wow... it looks sooooo real.

the 12th right???
I'll be picking it up :)

Yeah... it officially launches on the 12th. I might try my luck tomorrow afternoon after work to see if I can get my hands on a copy of the game, seeing as how I never bothered preordering or reserving a copy of it anywhere.

^^^ BUMP ^^^

Just thought I would make a great game recommendation, which might get lost among all of the other summer blockbuster games that have just been released - like GTAIV or MGS4, for example.

For those old school gamers out there who can remember playing (the original) Commando on the NES or arcade machine, there's a new "Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3" download that was released both on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network less than a week ago.

For the cost of $10, you can have a heavily upgraded game from the one in the past which plays really really well, in my opinion. Capcom even made it possible for three player co-op play in the online mode, and I think that's a huge selling point alone.

Capcom also threw in an offer for getting a Street Fighter online beta for those who downloaded it from Xbox Live, but no such offer existed on PlayStation Network.

Regardless, I downloaded a copy of this game on both systems, so if there are people out there who get the game, and want to play the story mode, I am more than willing to blast some bad guys through the game's co-op mode with you.

Are any of the new PS3s backwards compatible? I know the 60GB was...

I found this chart on wired's website... it seems to be a quick and easy comparison between the PS3 models that are (or used to be) on the market.

^^^ BUMP ^^^

Just wanted to let those who own a PS3 know that firmware version 2.4 was released earlier this morning. I downloaded it when I woke up this morning, and the changes that were done made me feel happier. ;)

This information comes from firingsquad's website, and sums up the update better than I probably can.

The update will bring several new features we've already mentioned such as trophies and the ability to play music in-game, but that's not all: the new update will also support XMB access inside games. Like the PSP, the 2.4 update will also include Google support via XMB. Sony has posted a video walkthrough highlighting the new XMB, as well as a 2nd video dedicated to the trophy system.

The following games from Sony will be the first to support the new trophy system (other publishers will likely hop onboard shortly):

Buzz! Quiz TV
LittleBigPlanet
MotorStorm Pacific Rift
NBA 09 (on PS3)
Pain
PixelJunk Eden
Resistance 2
SOCOM Confrontation
Warhawk

^^^ Double bump, if there is such a thing ^^^

I just learned that Sony took the new 2.4 update down from their servers, due to the fact that some PS3s were getting bricked (i.e. killed) because of this update. There was also an issue where some people were able to share some of their downloaded games with other people...

Luckily, my PS3 still works... and I certainly hope it stays that way. ;)
