Discdogge

Does anyone know of or can recommend a big screen tv repair company?

We came home to our less than 4 yr old 48" messed up. We are pretty sure the blue tube has gone out. 2 yrs ago we had to have the green tube adjusted.

Does anyone know anything about big tv's and the color tubes? wondering if we shouldnt waste the money on repair and get a flat screen instead.

thoughts?

Thanks.

IME it is not usually worth the cost to fix the projection style TV's. I would just look at an LCD.

That said it might be worth getting an estimate first and then make the decision.

Like Keri ssaid, its a PIA to get those fixed. I had 60 inch that lost its blue tube and I believe the company that was going to fix it was, jaxtelefix or something. Its was like 4-500 for that and another part. I just sold it to them and got a diffrent tv. I now run a 52 inch dlp hd that I love. I hope it works out for you!

Thanks guys,

Flreef, I think thats exactly what cody wants to go with is the 50-52 inch dlp.

Im calling someone today, maybe can tell me over the phone the cost we are looking at...do most places offer to buy the tv? It's a nice one...well except for that blue tube, haha.
We already decided we arent putting more than a 300$ repair into it, since it's been repaired once already, at least that was cheap.

thanks for the replys,
Linn

They are coming today to check the tv, the repair guy is pretty sure it's the convergence board or something, lol. Either an easy fix or a 500$ one, lol.

So I guess we'll know by this afternoon if we are going flat screen or not woo!

If we dont have to buy a new tv, then the money goes to the 180g, which I am dieing to start!

Thats a big toss up...180g or big tv? at least for us it is, having a toddler and a baby , we dont get out much, so being able to watch our movies etc is a big deal around here.

Ok, so the guy said the convergance board needs rebuilt, it's 420$, and it comes with a year warrenty.

Thoughts?

I would see about another estimate. The Tv your looking at will be about $2500. tough choice.

you didn't pay $2500 for a dlp tv did you?

If he got it over 6 months ago, he may have. My first HDTV (regular rear projection RCA 52" 4:3) cost me $2600 on sale, but that was 7 years ago.

That Toshiba 52" DLP looks nice, lots of connections on the back!

Also, anyone with a nice projection TV (HD or not) should get the Video Essentials DVD. It really makes a difference after you set it up correctly!
