I do think blu-ray will flop, I also think using blu-ray in the PS3 is a mistake. Game developers havn't had problems with media storage as of yet. It would take at least 6 years of development to make a game that will fill a blu-ray disc. Can you imagine how much a game like that would cost?

I don't think the ps3 will necessarily flop. But the games are not necessarily going to be any different than a DVD game. Using blu-ray for the ps3. Yes you will be able to watch blu-ray movies on your PS3, at least for a while until it flops.

Like i said before, Beta was technologically superior to VHS. It failed because of Sony's marketing strategy and price gouging. They seem to think since they are the exclusive owner of a new technology, they can charge a premium. However, a cheaper alternative that is almost as good and half the price is out there killing it. We've seen it all before.

Producers and retailers are already giving up on the UMD movies. They are not selling. Another sony exclusive media that could have been great if Sony was willing to share some of the wealth.

toshiba can do the same thing since they are the inventors of hddvd.

they could, but didnt. Another thing to think about is that HD-dvd beat blu-ray to the stores...Saw one in best buy last week while buying my LCD tv. From what i have been reading they have been selling like crazy...

All I am saying is i am waiting to see how it all pans out before I choose one or the other. I have been burned a few times on Sony's new technology, so I am waiting this one out a bit.

lol there is something like 8 movies out for hddvd and bluray hits stores in june, so they got a month head start. 30+ movies come out for bluray at launch next month.

go ahead and jump on the blu-ray bandwagon if you want. But it's a pretty big gamble considering. All I know is I keep reading articles about how blu-ray is going to be the next betamax. And it makes sense. Personally, I am not ready to drop $1000 on something that could be obsolete in a year

im not buying anything till they are out for at least 6 months and they drop to $300-400.

divx was completely retarded because it was a disc that you would buy and then after so many viewings or hours the disc would basically destroy itself and make it unusable.

That wasn't the problem. It was just like a rental. You had so may hours ( or days) to view the disc once activated by the first viewing. You could reactivate many times on the same disc. The retarded thing was having to have a DIVX capable player, which was limited technology, proprietary in nature similar to the discussion here.

i really don't see what is limited or proprietary about bluray other than they support 1080p which hddvd doesn't. They have the support of every company other than hp. They also don't have as much DRM as hddvd does which is just annoying to me. I could care less about that stupid digital rights management stuff.

The players in stores right now are not capable, because the whole digital rights management HDMI stuff hasn't been nailed down yet. This is one of Blu-Rays big hold-ups. The 2nd gen HD-DVD will have the new HDMI format, I think the first gen Toshiba player is going to be upgradable..

The whole 1080p thing doesnt really matter to me....I just bought my LCD last week...There are very few native 1080p televisions on the market yet...So it's not really a deal breaker for 98% of HDTV owners...

the biggest reason i support bluray is because the discs hold more and when ps3 comes out i am buying one. It sure would be nice to just buy a ps3 and not have to buy another hd dvd player for awhile if ever. I sure don't use my ps2 to play dvds because it sux at it but ive heard the ps3 will be good at playing bluray.

that's cool, as the technology leaves alot of room for advancement in the gaming world...which is good for everyone...

as far as dropping a bunch of cash on a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player, I would be very reluctant to buy either one for a while.. That is the only point i was trying to make...

If that external HD-DVD peripheral for the xbox360 is reasonably priced i will pick one up...I would also like a PS3 but the fiance would kill me if i spent more money on "stupid video games"

lol, my wife would do the same, thats why i didn't get an xbox360. I like alot of the games that are sony exclusive, ps3 is supposed to be 3 times as powerful, it comes with bluray, and im not a big fan of giving msoft more money. Thats my reasons for getting a ps3.
