OT: Black Chain

JMCAquarium

They are among us!!
Just got a new Tow/Hitch for the truck since im accessorizing it in all black and i want black chains to hang off the hitch. I have 1 inch chains for hauling these will basically be for cosmetic purposes and not used for anything except looking sexy on my truck.
Anyone have an idea where to get some? Cheaper the better:reading:

home depot had them in orange and yellow but not black:headwally:

Thanks and i'd prefer to get them as local to peoria as possible

ya the orange ones at HD looked to be plastic dipped.

I'd prefer a "glossy" look but if i have to spray paint some standard chains i can get all redneck on it i suppose. lol

You can dip them yourself. Just have to buy the chain and HD (at least they used to) sells the plastic dip. It used to be the paint section. I used it to lock up my boat a few years ago. It's very easy and looks like wet black when your done.

huh never knew that they had "self dip" will check into it.
I was at lowes last night and they had white, red, yellow, orange, and this 1/4 inch metal chain that looked really dark almost like it had been smoked in a fire or somthing tat looked really cool at $3.00 a foot.
thanks guys looks like ill have to custum order it or dip it myself

You know what would look really cool? Borrow an acetelyne torch and temper the entire chain. You'd get that blue steel look. Of course, any excuse to play with a torch...

Of course, if you're going to put any weight on the chain, don't do this.

I have bought the plasti dip in black from home depot (Indian Bend location) in the past. It is located in the paint section if i remember correctly.

only thing im worried about with the plasti dip with chain is will the chain still move freely or when it hardens will it basicly be solid or stiff?

whats your say stoli ? you did chain for your boat

It'll move fine. After it dries, just shake it around for a little while. It's basically how they coat any chain.

I'd still go with the torch though for the best look. If you do that, i'm coming over with some beer just to watch.

I found some chain at lowes that looks all smoked up i think im going to go with that. thanks rafa for the offer but east valley is one hell of a long drive to torch 4 feet of chain....but now i have to find what "torched" chain looks like now you guys got me all interrested now
