does anyone own one ? if so tell me why you love it .

I am looking for a camera and I am just trying to see what people say about them here. O and other than MP whats the difference between the two.

I had the pleasure of holdng and taking a few pics with the 30D I started to drool lol

price doesn't matter either between the two because I am not going to be paying full price :D

I bought my wife the xti for xmas. She is pretty happy with it. One feature I really like is the auto sensor cleaner. I wish my camera had that. It is especially nice if you change lenses often. The camera is nice lite weight and handles well. I have no experience with the 30D.

I believe the 30D has a few more "pro" features. I can't remember what they are right now though :D I konw its a heavier camera, probably a bit sturdier as a result. The XTi has a new rear LCD display which is bigger than its predecessor and I THINK the 30D does not have this. I have the XTi, and I love it. Personally, I would look up the feature differences and decide for myself whether they, along with the construction differences, warranted the extra money.

Image quality is pretty close. I prefer the size and controls of the 30D. I shoot in full manual nearly all the time and the XT and XTi controls are a bit of an annoyance. That being said, the XTi is a real bargin, leaving more money for good glass.

I found the the XTI to be a bit small in my hand, The 30D feels good and easy fingertip controls well built and solid so is the XTI, the sensor cleaner in my opinion is ok after the dust particles drops off the sensor where does it go ,out the bottom of a secret trap door? no it sits in the bottom of the camera to be shaken around on the inside of the body. A good idea but kind of a gimmick ,just my opinion.

Actually - the sensor cleaning setup works so well that it's being incorporated into the new 1DmIII

I went from the Canon XT to the 30D and won't look back to their consumer DSLR's. The 30D has a much better feel than the XT or XTi (Magnesium alloy vs. plastic), 1/3 stop ISO controls, lower ISO noise, 9-point AF, faster FPS, spot metering, better IQ, and the control layout is much better IMO. The picture quality will be very close between the camera's though I seem to get a much higher percent of "keepers" from the 30D vs. my XT. I'm sure the XTi is a great camera and all, I just like the 30D much better and felt it was worth the extra money. That being said though, the user has the largest impact on how the pictures will look :D If you don't need the more advanced features of the 30D, I would stick with the XTi and get some glass.

30D....my 2 cents

I agree with that, in principal.

If it's a matter of buying the 30D and then not being able to afford additional (decent) lenses I'd say buy the XTi. Both camera bodies will take excellent pictures. It's the photographer and the quality of the lens that really makes the difference.

For what its worth, if you don't care about the added features of the 30D or feel that they're not worth the difference in price, but like ahuxman58 above, felt that the XTi felt too small to be really comfortable, you may be able to fix that by buying the vertical grip. I've read a number of people saying that the beefier feel of that grip made up for the smaller size of the XTi (I personally kind of like the smaller size and lighter weight, for what its worth).

i have the xti and i could not take better pictures with the 30d, because i dont know how. Its really the experts like Blazer88 and BeerGuy that can put the extra features to use. I will upgrade in due time, but then i will know exactly what i want plus i used the extra cash for a macro lens;)

Well since I am a women with small hands any way lol the Xti will not be small to me.
I have a 35mm canon rebel and I am used to that size. I also have an EOS A? and that thing is really big to me. When I had the 30D in my had it wasn’t big but kind of heavy .

I just might get the Xti the upgrade later. This could be a good beginner digital SLR for me.

I used many film cameras ( remembered when I was obsessed with medium formats lol) but I am not experienced with Digital SLRs at all.

The XTI is a perfect camera for the ladies with their smaller hands, a friend of mine who by the way is a Canon salesman , "the chicks will love it", he said when it was introduced. I know a couple ladies who own it and they love it. For me though Ill stick with my 30D, and wait for the price to come down a bit on the new 1Dmk111 "the worlds fastest camera" and for what I do that would be perfect and plus I get a new sensor cleaning system. lol
