OT: Carmax, anyone use them?

I've taken 3 different cars to carmax. My experience is their offers are too far below the cars retail value even considering their costs and markup for resale; so in all three cases I kept the car and either sold it myself or used it as a trade-in. In spite of the lower trade value, any trade reduces your tax obligation on the new car.

Man, they gave me a great deal on my car. I'm going to a dealership and will see if they can match it, if not straight to Carmax. I'll buy the new car from the dealership though, the warranty is so much better.

I'm glad I posted this question.

Don't forget to factor in the 8% offset for taxes, or you might just want to round to 10% so you can avoid the hassle and time required to do two separate transactions.

I went with a dealership and I'm so happy I did. I found a great 2007 SUV with only 25,000 miles on it, full warranty up to 48,000 miles and I bought the extended warranty up to 84,000 miles, 2014.

All for the same price as a comparable SUV at CarMax with 35,000 miles and no warranty.

I would have made a huge mistake . . . THANKS everyone!!

Oh yeah, they gave me the same trade in price for a beat down 2002 Envoy.
