Fish?
I found a caterpillar on the underside of a Sedum plant that I was trimming a few weeks ago. I thought that it would be fun for, my almost five year old, son (and for myself) to watch it feed, make its coccoon, and emerge.
So, after doing a bit of research, I found out that its common name is, Virginian Tiger Moth or Yellow Woolybear Moth and its proper name is Spilosoma Virginica.
After watching it eat for a few days and keeping it misted with water, it began slowing its food consumption and appeared to be searching for a good place to "do its thing".
I awoke this morning to my son jumping on me yelling, "Daddy! Daddy!! The Caterpillar hatched!!!"
Sure enough, there he was. A bright white moth with a fluffy head and furry legs. Spencer was SO excited to bring him out on our deck so that he could send him back to his Mommy and Daddy.
It was really cool watching him fly away as well as seeing the excitement that Spencer had for the whole "event".
