OT: Charter vs SBC/AT&T

I'm going to start shopping for a bundled of services and wanted to know if anyone has suggestions or ballpark price for these services [Internet + phone + TV].
I currently have SBC/AT&T for phone and net while CC does the cable TV. I have no real issues against either company so I will be looking for the best deal/service.
Thanks.

I've had nothing but bad dealings with Charter. They quoted me one price to get me to switch to cable. When the first bill arrived it was $10 more. They said they had not included some charges on my quote and apologized. Yet, they would not let me out of my one year obligation without charging me $250.

I'd get a bundling deal from SBC/ATT and get phone, DSL, and Satellite. They should give you a pretty good price.

Just my opinion,

Nick

charter is completly retarded to deal with, but i have their 3 meg cable internet, and it's pretty nice.
but $110 a month is a lot for tv/internet. :(
whatever you get i totally totally recommend getting a dvr. you can watch 2x as much tv and no commercials!

DVR RULES !!!!!

This is what I have with charter:

This is about $160.00 a month including taxes.

Telephone
3 MEG internet

With the Cable TV I have the biggest value package which includes all the movie channels plus I added the family tier.
I have a Moxi High Def DVR with a mini mate on the other TV in the house. (This also you to watch something recorded on either TV) I have the HD package as well.

I don't have cable or anything, but my internet is $15.00 a month at 1.5 Mbps. That is practically instantaneous on anything but big websites and downloads.

I guess I'm a bit partial to Charter since I work for them, but I do know that Charters internet is alot faster than SBC or AT&T. I have also heard that Charters customer service isn't the best, but if you do bundle all three services together you do save alot of money. Heres what is on Charter's website

**The Charter Bundle - Save Up to $600 off standard rates When you subscribe to Charter Digital CableÃ"šÃ‚®, Charter High-Speedâ„¢ Internet and Charter Telephoneâ„¢ for 12 months. $99.97/month**

There maybe an installation price of $50 depending on how your house is setup.....

Good Luck!!

I just moved to STL recently....We had charter put in our house about a month and a half ago....they overcharged on install(still trying to get it corrected), STILL haven't buried the orange cable going across my front yard(that the service tech said they would be doing within 2 days!) I called 2 weeks ago and had a "rush" put on burying, and still nothing...ok, that all out of the way, I still can't believe the prices. I moved from the DFW area and for the same service I am paying 30 bucks a month more. I mean customer service is anything but that....oh ya, forgot another kicker...I told them I had my own Motorola surfboard modem, and since I had to work the day of install I hooked it all up and had it plugged into the cpu and ready to go so the fiancee wouldn't have to worry about it. They actually unplugged my modem to plug in the new one and left the box and wires all over the office floor. Sorry its so long but I am amazed....I am actually about ready to switch to dish and I haven't even had charter two months...I would say do anything but charter!

Thanks for the input. Sounds like customer service is weak with both but Charter may have a better speed.

Please keep the comments coming.

Tom - Glad to hear the flame is doing well. A picture of her came up the other day on my screensaver.... beautiful color! I'm guessing she has put on some size in your tank.

charter is absolutly the worst and Ive got all 3 services they havent got the bill right since the day they quoted me 99 for all three. Ive had so many supervisors of supervisors to department heads credit my bill and yet is still doesnt get credited.

I have charter for cable and SBC for the net. I am probably going to switch to Carter for cable as well. Haven't had any real headaches with customer service with them. I must be lucky.

What I did do right however was tell them I was switching from Dish. They gave me a special deal. I have all the premium channels for 2 years at half the normal price. It was pretty sweet. I'd call them and tell them you are thinking about switching from Dish or sat. and want to know about any bundles and specials they might have...

Just a suggestion...

took them 3 months to bury my cable.
and in that time my neighbor hit it with his weed wacker.
it didn't hurt the service, but there was visible damage to the line.
i told them they needed to come out and replace it. i think they just buried it instead. >: (

It sounds like a lot of you need to call up the MO attorny general about Charter's shading dealings. That's the best way to get results.

Charter was rated LAST on JD Power and Associates customer service for 2005...however, I never really have any problems.

I have Every channel they offer, 3 boxes, HD Services, and 5 meg. pipline.

AFTER taxes, mine comes to $88.50 even
If you already have anything through Charter just tell them to cancel your services in 30 days...Then deal from there. Trust me, they can't afford to lose customers and they know that.

This is the same package I've been on for ages. Every time it goes up I call to cancel. Even if they let me off the phone without a resolution, just call back in for a question and see what you can get and always let them know that someone who is a new customer can get a better deal than a loyal customer???

I just got my dad on the same plan I'm on but I think it went up to $94 but he was paying $120+ and that wasn't even all the stations and only 3meg service.

Scott, we currently have phone, TV and internet with Charter.

Their customer service was really bad and I had a lot of billing problems when we first set all this up. One month I was even double billed (autopay) and it took several weeks to clear up.

With all the problems we had, I was finally able to get the direct number of a Manager in their Customer Service department. Any time we have issues with Charter, I call her and she clears everything up right away. For the record, we have not had any problems in months.

You could probably trade that number for frags or buckets of salt...
Why do you think I dangled that carrot in front of you all?

:D

hi scott

i am like george and tom, i have the total bundle with the 3meg dsl, and digital cable with all the premium channels, but with my phone service i have unlimited long distance calling. the total price is $156/month. the biggest thing is the "special taxes" they add, just like sbc, they add about $15 of taxes and another $5 for franchise fees and such.
