OT: Circuit City Liquidation Sale

So.. I've been watching and waiting til the discounts are right to make a purchase. Every week they slash 5 or 10% off. Currently they are at 30% off TV's.. sounds great right? I went there last week it was 25%. That discount didn't make me want to purchase. 35% is the # I would highly consider. However, the price went UP! this week with the discount. last week the price was around 800 with the 25% discount.. now its 900 something with the 30% discount! LMAO, what a joke this liquidation sale.. they mark it up then apply the discount. All these suckers lining up to buy it up when best buy and other vendors are selling it at the same price or lower.

Sounds wrong to me! Good luck on the TV Sam! Just be lucky you are not me! I bought a couple 56 inch samsung LCD's about 8 months ago.. Ya they cost me a small fortune but now they are half of what I paid.. I guess that's electronics for you..

thanks! i won't pull the trigger unless the price is right. i heard circuit city is still ordering tvs and other electronics to stock up on whats sold.

I knew this when I went in to look for an extra camera body. With the discount, it was the same price as one I can buy at bh online regularly. The 20% was applied to "their retail" price, which is like $300 above normal retial price anyways, which in the end is the same as buying it for retail elsewhere.
CC's liquidation sale is actually good though for small things. Their misc stuff (memory cards, cd, etc) are at a very good discount. Don't bother with the big things, give your money to someone else whose still in business to keep them afloat.

I bought a wirelesss ps3 controller for $38, which is about $17 cheaper then the normal price so I thought that was a decent deal. The stuff like TV's are a nogo so far. Who knows though, right now is like the best time for hookup prices if know someone who works there and doesn't care.

i saw the vizios but the wife wants a samsung or lg. i know furniture shops do the same sales tactics.. they raise up the price and put it on sale ... in the end its the same price. lol

dave,

what games you got for the ps3? :)

Yes, If you are a member at Costco that is the best place to buy a TV, I think. The return policy is CRAZY there... If you decide that the price has dropped down too much or that you are not happy with the unit, or even if it breaks in the next 6 months or longer BRING it back to the store and they give you the money you paid back in full. Then you go and buy the one you like. It's sort of a one of the perks for being a member.

I once had a pressure washer for my motocross bikes and neglected to put the oil in the engine (Not to Smart) well, I took it back and told them what happened, they laughed and gave me a new one. :) Super nice...people...

hey Sam, I suck, I mostly use it to stream movies from my home PC. I only have Dragon Ball Z Burst limit for my son. Movie wise, I only have a couple blu-rays hehe.

I barely have enough time as it is w/ the tank and the family to play.

Go with Samsung!!! Very best bang for your buck as well as an excellent Warranty Program.. LG used to be as good, but lately their customer service has sucked the big one... Vizios, are "disposable" tv's, none of them are the same, sorta like Dell computers... you buy one now, and a month from now the same tv has diffrent parts in it... their warranty department from what Ive been told by a few insiders, say they cant get the right parts for the tv's...

My .02 says to spend the extra couple 100 dollars and get the samsung over vizio or LG....

Samsung has my vote when Im ready to drop it. Best picture by far on almost every model I saw vs. it's comparible.

Thanks for the input Trevor, I had my suspisions...

i'm a samsung fan! i buy all electronics through amazon.com. best prices you will find, no tax and in most cases free shipping. it will be on your doorstep w/in 5 days max.

Samsung all the way as far as LCD! I own two 56 LCD's, but I also have a Sony top of the line 52 in my bedroom which in my eyes does not hold a candle to the Samsungs in our living rooms... Just my thoughts only...

If you are going to do it.. do it right, go with the Samsung for sure... :) Get one at Costco if you hate it WHEEL it on back!

Actually - because of abuse, Costco have changed its return policy on many electronics. "Televisions, projectors, computers, cameras, camcorders, iPOD / MP3 players and cellular phones must be returned within 90 days of purchase for a refund." However, they do increase your warranty from the typical one year to two years.

I personally think it's sicken how some people abuse Costco's return policy. My brother-in-law ex-wife used to work at a Costco's return counter, and some of the stories she tells is freaken nuts. Like people who purchase a cake for a party, come back with one slice and ask for a refund. Or the 5+ years old pee stained couch that gets returned because the owner isn't happy. Oh - the people who buy laminate floors and then return all the cut pieces because they didn't use them. FREAKEN NUTS!

Don't get me wrong, I purchase things from Costco because of its liberal return policy. I went through two different laminators in less than 1 year. Both were purchased from Fry's Electronic. I finally got one from Costco recently. If that thing dies within 2 years, I am returning it. At work, we purchased a commercial grade shredder from Costco. It broke within 6 months. Returned it to Costco and purchased a new one. Sorry - but a commercial grade shredder should not break in 6 months.

Returning a TV because of a huge price drop or after using it for 6 months and deciding you don't like it - well, that's simply unethical. Returning a TV because it broke in 6 months due to a MANUFACTURE DEFECT (and not because you threw your WII remote at it) - well, that's more reasonable.

I just got a 32 inch LCD 720p Samsung at Best Buy for $499.00, and it is an awesome TV!!!!!!

Costco does not sell Samsungs any more.:(

Home Depot did the same thing with their prices when they went out of business this past summer. I know what alot of prices of items are normally so when I went there when they finally had their prices slashed to "50% off" I was amazed to see the prices of alot of stuff were still at normal prices or even higher than normal AFTER the price slash and people were snatching things up at above normal pricing like they were actually getting a "deal".
