I'm looking for someone who can help me get the data off an 80 gb hard drive from my laptop. It's under warranty and they'll give me a new one but I have a few recent things I need off there. If you can help, pm me and let me know and what you'll charge and I can get you additional information needed.

Thanks!

are you allowed to take the hd out? if so I think I have an enclosure so it can be hooked up through usb.

i'm assuming that the thing isn't turning on or something?

unless its priceless data dont bother taking it to a computer place, its like $50/hr to do that crap

you can get adapters so you can hook it up to your PC as a removable drive, but those are kind of weird to use...Jx's device sounds far more ideal, hopefully it works out alright

Actually, I do need the data. I won't pay that much but I'll find a way.
I can remove my HD
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying? The computer won't even boot up. Not in safe mode, not by command.

Jx. Send me a pm with your contact info if you don't mind.

Thanks for the help!

if your computer doesnt boot up, the problem is usually with your software (windows, I assume) or memory...your HD is just fine, so the data is perfectly fine

you just need to hook the HD up to a computer with software that is functioning so you can save your data....

To be honest it might be easier than that. What is the specific error. If it gives you a windows based prompt it can be fixed easily. You can rerun Windows setup and do a repair, if it is complaining about the OS being missing and insert disk, then there is a way to repair your Master Boot Record which the computer can't find. If the above don't work and the harddrive is working fine, you can reinstall windows without erasing your Harddrive and have all your files intact. I sent you a PM with my phone # give me a buzz when you get a chance.

I could help you out if needed, but it sounds like you got some closer help offered. Let me know if you need anything more.

You could try the OS called Ubuntu. If you go to www.ubuntu.com or http://ubuntu-releases.cs.umn.edu//6.06/ You could dowload the live CD image then use your favorite burning software to burn it to cd. The CD will allow you to boot to a fully functioning version of the OS. It will not alter your HD at all. I am pretty sure it comes with burning software that you could use to burn your info. If not you could use a USB drive and copy it there. I will reboot my computer and find out for sure about the burning software. If you are interested and would like further info let me know.

OK, I am in ubuntu now and it does come with a burning software. It is under the places menu and it is called CD/DVD Creator.
