OT: Dang School shootings :/

Well as a teacher today was a pretty sad day. Another school shooting for us Knoxvillians!

Just rough to know that we have students hurting so much in our schools that the only way they seem to think they can express their feelings is to pull a gun!

I just hope and pray that I have enough of a positive influence on my students that if they feel that way, they talk to me about it first!

The decision to pull that trigger was made long before the actual incident. It happened with every choice that young man made along the way in his anger and thoughts and his choice to carry a gun with him. Such a mindset doesn't get to the point where it talks with a teacher. And if it does, you'll likely never know that you helped at all. I sometimes wonder if my work with teenagers has any impact.

4-5th hand ~ so take for what it's worth. Co-worker's in-law's nephew supposably was sitting at the table.

The victim didn't believe it was a real gun and said "you're not gonna shoot me" and he opened fire. Kid said it was like ketchup bottles exploded. The other people at the table supposably didn't think it was a real gun either and unknowlingly egged it on.

Punk ars generation when a teenager decides to take a gun vs a fight on the corner like we used to do.

Keep up the good work Scott!

I hated those as a kid. My big mouth got me into a lot of fights up until about 10th grade. But at least they were with fists. And several of my adversaries were friendly if not friends afterward. A few years after I graduated, I heard that gangs were starting to form at my high-school and people were carrying knives. I suppose it is guns by now. Never bring a knife to a gun-fight...

The one time an "adult" (18-year-old held back to 12th grade) came after me, a threatening call from my mom made him behave -- something about an adult assaulting a 15-year-old minor. :) Sometimes you need to fight with your mind. ;)
