OT Denver Police Department

Did you get busted on Pena Blvd. for speeding. I actually think the DPD are probably the best in the whole area in regards to personality.

Unfortunately I got hit by a drunk that crossed in to my lane and kept driving. I chased him and gave the cops a potential plate. Found both mirrors at the scene and the other one matched the description of the plate I gave him.

Now I guess I just wait and hope.

Thankfully we just lost a mirror and it damaged everywhere it hit on its departure. Could have been a lot worse.

happy to see your still here. match the plate, online to the owner.... vigilante justice with a civil suit. illegal alien??? its very common.

Just because its a drunk driver that ran he has to be an illegal alien? Sorry buddy but I have seen everyone drinking and driving.

How is drinking and driving so common that you see it all the time? If I even suspect a drunk driver I call it in on the cell phone.
Man, I'm not looking forward to living in a big city.....

Denver was #1 on the Most Dangerously Drunk City in the country in '08 and Colorado Springs was 3rd(didn't check '09 results). Those stats include DUI's, Death from binge drinking and diseases resulting from alcohol abuse/use. Nothing involving a drunk surprises me here. I used to call DUI's in, but the cops don't do anything so why bother.

As for DPD, call the officer on the case weekly till he/she gets sick of getting calls from you. Other than that you probably won't hear anything until you get a subpoena to testify.

"until you get a subpoena to testify. "

Testify to WHAT? "He hit me" will get the guy a slap on the wrist or at worst careless driving.

There is no proof that he/she was drunk.

You cant even prove who was driving.

The police wont do anything after the fact.

+1 Your pretty much screwed after the fact theres not much you can do. Like stu said there is no way to prove anything after the accident happened the person could say they let someone borrow their car and they werent the driver. And as for drunk driving in this state it makes sense drive thru liquor stores there must be 4 liquor stores with in a mile radius of each other. I would rather see 4 other certain stores in a mile radius oh wait a minute i just did ....

If they claim they lent the car out, they can still be charged with accessory to the hit and run for not coughing up the person who was driving. It is true that chances are nothing will happen unless the cops caught them in the car after the accident. That is why I suggested pestering the cop. Last I checked Hit&Run was a felony so if you can get it to court it should be more than a slap on the wrist.

I guess it's easier for them to ticket someone for driving 6mph over the speed limit than to find a hit and run driver. Oh and they get easy fine money too.

what is the overall goal of getting this person? Their insurance to pay the damages of your car? I get wanting to rid the city of another Drunk driver, but what is the overall goal?

Colorado is a no fault state, so even if they did catch the guy all he would have to do is deny the incident happened, and both of your insurance companies would fix your own cars anyways...Insurance is a joke...
