OT: Driving on Lake Shore Drive

Long story short, I got my second job driving residents of one of the Nursing Homes/Rehabilitation Centers in Evanston. Easy job, no problems etc., except when I need to drive somebody to Northwestern Hospital in downtown Chicago, major pain everybody knows where.
Reason is, somebody told me I am not allowed to drive mini, small bus on Lake Shore Drive? Bus has 6 wheels, kinda similar to this one:

Anybody has any idea if its true? I know CTA buses are allowed on LSD (which does not proof anything of course), what about smaller buses, heard pick trucks cannot drive there, moving companies buses neither etc.
I know its a strange question, but driving an hour or more from Evanston through the streets like Western or Chicago is bad compared to LSD and quick 35 minutes trip, it would save me a lot of time.

Does your vehicle have Truck plates on it? I have heard that if you have passenger plates, you are OK. If you have Truck plates, then you can't. The original intent of the law was to keep LSD a passenger friendly scenic drive, and commercial vehicles were prohibited. AS it ends up, a big Hummer or Giant Escalade can drive on it, but a smaller pickup with truck plates can not.

Goes by the plate on the vehicle and not the truck itself. Same law applies to express lanes on the Dan Ryan also. Most cops, not all by any means, will let a personal pick-up slide. If it is a commercial vehicle with a business name on the side. You will get a ticket.

Only passenger plates can drive on lakeshore drive. I have a smaller company van with logo on the side with B truck plates and drive through a bunch of times without getting ticketed. Check what type of plates you have then Google the city restrictions with them.
