OT: First Wedding

Just went to the first wedding I've ever been to in my life. It was so beautiful, and tons of fun. Weddings are like one massive photo opportunity waiting to happen, all around you.

I was just there to enjoy a family friend's wedding, and with one hand on the camera, and one hand steadying the fabulous glass of pinot noir (one of 7 I had that day), took a few shots =)

a few more on the slideshow, it's worth it really: http://flickr.com/photos/kinetic/sets/72157605507779015/show/

photoshop =) super heavy vignette, I love it.

kind of frames the shot a bit rather than ending at a hard square border

Some great shots in there probably better than there own photographer. did you give the couple a set of the pics?

And are you serious this is your first wedding you've ever attended? i think you missed your calling as a wedding photographer. oh well i guess software engineer will just have to do.

Yeah first wedding ever attended, not sure why. I'm starting to get to that age where all my friends are starting to get engaged, so here they come!!

I'm a lot better at developing cool software and web applications than taking photos though thats for sure...

Absolutely beautiful...that third one is like one of those pics you would see when you go to buy a picture frame at the store...incredible...

Wow great photos! Aside from taking good pics you have to have an eye for the composition of the shot, and you have that for sure!

PS. Asian people are so beautiful, especially to photograph. :)

wow!!!! nice!!!! those do look like pictures I'd see in the mall or something up on a poster. the only difference between those pictures and the ones in the mall is that usually you don't see asian people in posters in the mall, it's usually white people.

heya Kinetic,

great shots. you've done a great job also of capturing the mood of the day. something i find a lot of wedding photographers miss sometimes.

I'd love to know what effect your using for the "washed out" look

I second that, could you explain it a little more?

Ah, you guys have missed all my other threads, I've posted the processing method almost every time I've posted my photos here. I'll put up a blog sometime soon on my method and just link you guys next time. =)

Great shots as always Art! I forgot to ask, do you shoot in jpeg or raw mode? In manual? I recently been playing around with manual recently going from program auto. :)

Mike: I shoot in RAW always, it's a waste of an expensive digital SLR not to shoot in RAW. There's almost zero reason not to, and when I hear people who even think of shooting in JPEG only, I'm always stunned.

I always shoot in Aperture priority mode to control depth of field, and shutter priority if I want to play with movement and exposure times. I almost never shoot in full manual, no need, especially in RAW.

I say, buy better equipment so you can stay focused as much as you can on composing the shot, rather than buying better equipment to tweak a lot more with before you can even concentrate on taking the shot.

=)
