OT: Flooring

Anyone know much about flooring?

I've got some sub-floor that in some areas needs totally replaced, and others it's "iffy"

Would it be ok to cut-out the parts that need replaced, patch with fresh wood, and then lay 1/4" sub-floor over-top of everything? Or should everything be torn out? Or would it be ok to just lay a new sub-floor over top of the old and not worry about patching?

What kind of sub-floor would be recommended? 1/4, 1/2, 3/4? And should I go with plywood or will OSB be ok?

Well, this place was bought for VERY cheap, and I am not very well off in the financial department so the cheapest route possible is going to have to do...

I already have some 3/4 plywood that i can "patch" with in a few spots that really need it. so i was thinking in the one hallway and bedroom to just patch and cover it with 1/4 or 1/2 osb. and then the one room, i am pretty sure will have to all be replaced.

dont overlay 1/4" or 1/2" unless you do the whole room. Dont cheap out on your repairs or you will just have to fix it again and if your getting new flooring then you have to rip it to fix it later. 3/4 OSB is $20 for a 4x8 sheet. Cut out the areas joist to joist and do the repair
