OT - for Mariner

I was punching buttons on my GPS yesterday looking for golf courses nearby. I found Chriswood Golf Course in Athens. I've never heard of it. Have you played it? What can you tell me about it?

I've played it a couple of times, but not in several years. It was basically cow pasture golf...the weeds in my yard would make better fairways  Haven't heard anything about it lately.
For golf around Athens I like Southern Gayles (which was built by some friends of mine) and Athens Country Club (only nine holes, but in pretty good shape -- played it a couple of weeks ago.) Of course Canebrake is nice, but not worth paying double the green fees of the other courses in the area, IMHO.

I used to play Southern Gayles but I got bored with it because it is so "flat". Can non members play Athens Country Club?

Yes, non members can play. Actually, they may not even have members anymore...it hasn't been a real country club in many years... just your basic municipal golf course. It's fairly flat too. The greens are elevated, there's water that comes into play on two holes (three if your slice is bad enough), and a few sand traps in inconvenient places.
;) Seems like it was $27 for 18 with a cart (playing 18 just means playing all the holes twice). It's a couple miles south of Athens on Hwy. 31

Maybe we need to have an Alabama Reefers golf outing one weekend?

Good Idea - I'll surely try to participate in that. (If you guys can put up with me.)

A beautiful day, a good cigar and a club in my hand sounds like a perfect excuse to get out of the house:rollface: .
