OT - Hard plastic adhesive?

Thought I would ask here, as some of you are knowledgeable about this kind of stuff. I have something I'm trying to put together that is a kid's toy that is made of about eigth inch thick hard plastic, maybe not even that thick. The kind of plastic where if you hit it with a hammer it would kind of shatter it. There are two things I want to adhese together that are cylinder shaped and have smooth plastic ends on them that are about an inch and a half in diameter. I want to connect those ends together. I'm not sure that superglue would hold up here, as this toy will need to be capable of taking some punishment, so I was wondering if there was something that would do more of a job of fusing the two ends together for a very solid, permanent connection? Thanks for any input. :)

There is a plastic epoxy made by loctite that has a very strong tensile strength. I use it on alot of things from model planes to my kids toys and it always holds up well.

HAHA thats so funny because my grandpa would say the same thing and then if you try to tell him it won't work for something like this he try and kick your A** for bad mouthing JB weld

yeah i am pretty sure Home depot or lowes would carry it but the last time i bought it i picked it up at schaffers hobby shop but i am very sure any hardware store would carry it

Just because it's easier sometimes to see a picture of what your looking for

It's one of the strongest epoxys I have ever used for plastic. I believe like any of loctite's epoxys it is considered a permanent bond. but I guess it's all dependent on what your using it for. The great thing about this is it has a much higher tensile strength then something like super glue. SG is great for not pulling something directly apart but usually if you put pressure the opposite way of the break it doesn't have the strength to hold it, an epoxy like this would.

but you have remember the story of Humpty Dumpty, somethings just can't be put back together.

Ok breutus, or anyone else, Home Depot didn't have the stuff you had pictured there. I ended up picking up this two part stuff you mix made by The Original Super Glue Corp. called "Plastic Fusion". It's a "multi-purpose plastic based acrylic", industrial strength 4,000 lbs per square inch.

What do you think? Does this sound good or should I continue looking for that other stuff. Probably only going to get one shot at this and want to make sure I do it right. thanks :)

Well as a general rule of thumb I was always taught that if it will adhere to said surface and it's a two part process then it's permanent and it doesn't sound much different than the stuff I was recommending except for the fact you mix it yourself while the stuff I use mixes as it comes out.

I would say your pretty safe. The only thing you have to look for on most two part things is to make sure it will bond to the surface your putting it on. IE normal JB weld only bonds to metals

Does it give what you should do for prep? Does it say to rough up the surface at all to give it a place to stick to? some need it and some don't, it's one of the things that I preferred about loctite's is that you didn't have to rough it up at all. It could stick to smooth or rough surface.

LMK how it does,

Though I think this will work, if you really want to wait I probably have some laying around here at the house but I am pretty busy all this week with work, so it will be at least next weekend.
