OT - High Def Cable question

Movin' on Up
Does anyone have HD cable?

What channels do you get with it?

Do you still have to use your HD antenna and switch between cable input and antenna input?

Can you split off and send the signal to other (non- HD) TV's?

Do you have to use a box for regular TV's?

Thanks.

My mom's got it.

They get ch2, 4, 5, espn a cable HD channel, and several movie channels in hd. I'd say maybe 10 total channels are HD.

They only have HD on the tv that has a box for it, you don't have to switch antennas. They have regular channels and the HD channels are up in the higher # channels 400's or 700's I think.
Regular channel 2 is channel 2 then HD channel 2 would be 702.

Splitting the signal would be just like splitting ity from any other cable box. The tv witrhout the box will get cable but not anything the box was programmed to recieve- HD, movie channels,

just some grace's dad missed

tnt hd, ch 9, discovery hd (not the same as discovery), if you have hbo cinimax or showtime you get the main channel in hd, music channel in hd. whatever channel 11 is now(used to be WB)

I beleive you also get their version of tivo (moxi) with the hd tuner. I'm not positive, it may be something extra she pays for.

Thanks. We've had Dish Network for 4 years now. I wanted to upgrade to HD service but their guy never bothered to show up yesterday so they just lost my business. I priced out DirecTV but it looks like I'll be 500 bucks out of pocket for recievers, etc. so that's not much of an option.

I'll try cable and see how it works out.

It is something you pay extra for. You can w/ either just a regular HD Box or the Moxi (DVR) which also has HD.

MayoBoy - slooooow down

DirecTV woudl like nothing more than to steal a dish network customer...there's no way you'll have to pay for ANYTHING....4 room install, etc free

- maybe contact best buy or directv directly...seriously, those places will do anything to convert a customer

anyways...I have Charter HD, and all of the channels have been covered...FSN, ESPN< TNT, CW11, PBS, Discovery HD Theater (animal shows...not 24 straight hours of american chopper like regular discovery), HD network, hbo, cinemax, showtime, blah blah blah

I got the HD cable box...I would say if you got this your HD antenna would be useless and you would sell it (or put it on another TV).......

regarding your question if you split it to a regular tv, yes you still get the channels, but not in HD....I know this because my TIVO can not record in HD, but I can record HD channels in regular quality

...since most of the HD channels are repeats of regular channels, this would not really be a big deal except for discovery, music HD (a combo of VH1, MTV, and CMT), and HD net, HD net movies

btw: it does NOT come with moxie...

Does it work in multiple rooms or just a single room? I need HD DVR for the flat panel upstairs and 2 room regular DVR for the basement. Can Charter do that?

since I have TIVO and not charter DVr, I can't answer your question about the HD DVR...so you want to record on 3 different TVs? holy

No, I only need to be able to record 1, sometimes 2 shows at a time. What I need to be able to do is watch the recorded shows on various TV's (playroom, exercise room, etc.)

To recap - I have 4 TV's - 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs. I would like to be able to record shows and watch them on the various TV's - not be limited to watching them in the room in which they were recorded.

Charter has the Moxi DVR and a Moxi Mate than can be hooked up to one more TV. Not sure on the price per month, but it'll give the option of recording in one room and watching in another....

that is a pretty cool function that at this time I dont need, but will keep in mind for when I do someday get a house

right now my only option would be to use the TIVO multiline discount, but that would require an additional tivo...but that would be cool because then I would have ability to record 4 things at once and watch it all on one or more TVs....hmmm

hopefully you enjoy HD as much as I do...it is outstanding

I was watching sunrise earth on discover HD...it is a silent show (no narration) that just shows different areas at sunrise

the particular episode I was watching was "polar bears"...my dogs, who have never noticed the TV picture before (only sounds of dogs barking on tv) both went over to the TV and started at it, and put their paws on it because they thought they were looking out of a real window...they wanted to go play with the bears

the funny part was when camera angle changed and the bear was close up, they got scared

HD TV is by far the coolest thing to come around since wendy's 5 piece chicken nuggets for a buck
