OT: Hughes x Gracie this weekend

this is a very interesting thread. cant wait till the fight, and gonna check this thread. i (or any fellow reefer) will start a hughes gracie spoiler thread saturday nite, so guys who miss it wont get it spoiled.

rach: minotauro is awesome at no-gi but he has admitted in a portuguese mag (tatame i think) to be "not in royce gracie's tech level" when it comes to gi fights. no gi = less technical.
i do honestly think that if royce goes the distance it shows more than stamina and ability to block punches. many guys (sakurai most notably, newton, trigg, riggs) cant survive hughes brutal gnp or vicious takedowns. royce never ktfo by genki though.

charles: fedor is prolly the best in the game. he beat crocop once already and is totally dominant. to bad his hand is in surgery so no pride tourney for him. wand took his place.

GoTakuF1: actually, cause of royce's stipulation the second time he fought yoshida it was a draw but he beat yoshida up bad. many times he had the armbar but wanted to punish him b/c of what happened the first time they fought. by judges he would have won easily but his rule screwed himself up. tokoro did own royce real bad though.

my prediction: rooting HARD for royce but me thinks it gonna be matt by U. decision. :(

hellloooo....You guys are living in denial. Hughes will pick Gracie up and drop him like he does to everyone. I think the fight can and will go 3 rounds - winner Hughes. Royce has not been punched in his face for awhile so I think reality will come to him quick. I agree Hughes is a pompous son of a gun and it would be cool to see Royce come in there and show everybody that he still has it but fighters are training different. We will just have to see.

... Jen lets make a bet...;p you and charles can come over and watch him loose on the bigscreen...lol

Hehe....I already have my card filled for all the fights, are you ready to lose?;)

hughes won. the match was called gracie didn't have a chance. it was first round. it was pretty impresive hughes had him in an arm bar and gracie was going to let it break before he would tap out but he got out of it first.

bad fight for royce. i think everyone knew the outcome of this one before it went down. but diehard nostalgic fans rooted hard for royce. like me.
like royce says its not style vs style anymore. hughes is cocky but dominant force. i still wish royce had won. still this fight eerily reminded me of cesar gracie vs frank shamrock a while back.
the next generation of gracie fighters would be ryron, rener gracie. they are all in their early 20s. bad boys with good boxing.

All I have to say is MATT GOT LUCKYYYYYY!!!

as disapointed as I was there didn't seam to be much competition so if that is luck then you can say he was lucky. If any contributing factor other than skill it could be atributed to the rules are quite different in the UFC now than they were before.

wow, i saw the fight. i rooting for royce, but he looked like he was out of his leauge in that fight. i felt bad for him he looked like he did not know what he was doing out there. i really felt bad because his pops was there. i hope he comes back and gives it another go. whoa, did u guys see how long he held out when hughes almost butsed his arm. royce did not want to tap out. anyhow, i was also impressed with the other militich (sp) fighter the lightwieght they showed it after the hughes fight i believe his name was king something. man he gave that dude a flying knee i thought the guy was going to die!! those militich fight are bad sob's

hughes didnt get lucky. he was very dominant. he had numerous superior positions on royce. he had perfect side control, knee on stomach and took royce's back and stretched him out. very good ground control.

I wanna see Shamrock beat Tito in July. What do you guys think about that fight?

PS - Hughes did dominate the fight.

i don't think you can really call lucky on any fight that goes to the ground, that's all about getting the dominant position. Landing a clean punch requires more luck. Hughes is just stronger.

I think Tito will beat Shamrock. Shamrock's too old too haha, he's past his time. I actually like Tito now because of ultimate fighter 3. He's a much better coach than Shamrock and he actually works out with his team rather than just give orders.

it was funny and sad at the same time, its not like it was a surprise. royce was completely dominated and destroyed. if the ref didnt stop it royce would not have recovered anyways.

and tito will beat shamrock as well. ken did rock tito with a punch in their first fight but other then that he was dominated as well.

don frye fought the other night on king of the cage, he showed his age as well and looked bad. randy fought well for his age, but i think he is the only one that has lasted the years being dominant.

i for one hope royce doesnt fight again, unless they are just going to throw him some more chumps, 'cuase he cant handle the big dogs.

tko. big john stopped the fight because gracie did not defend himself and was in danger of injury.

It might have been too late, I have a hard time believing that something didn't pop in that elbow. Matt was going to town on it.

The only luck Matt needed was not getting hit by a bus on the way to the fight. He simply killed Royce and I hope he doesn't fight again. I think some of it was age but I also think the sport has past up Royce's style.

Sorry for butting in but also wanted to get opinions on the fight that went the distance. I think 1 judge had it 27 to 30 and I guess I didn't quite see that.

Did you guys hear who is coming back next session for the Ultimate Fighter?

.......spoiler........

Randy Couture, plus Georges St. Pierre.

There is going to be no coaches only 16 former UFC fighters fighting for a guaranteed title fight and a six-figure cash prize.

Pretty cool.=)
