OT: I love SF bay area

Been to many places, and lived in different states. lived here the longest because it is the best place to live (except maybe Hawaii, mainly due to slow pace lifestyle, people here are so damn in a hurry, lol).

I just decided one day to move here sight unseen, best decision I made. People in Pennsylvania (where I lived prior to here) who have been to California told me its like going to a different country, and I think that is true. For someone who has lived mostly in a never heard of town in another state visiting, it may be difficult to take in the difference.

Share your thoughts.
Its very easy to be a "meanie" and cyber bully behind a keyboard (or phone) nowadays. (in case you missed the other thread)
 
I don't agree with the political choices or environment in California, but I'll leave that out of it since I've lived most of my life here and clearly that hasn't deterred me. For me it's about the combination of natural beauty and outdoor activities as well jobs.

Where else in the country can you go abalone diving one weekend and snowboarding the next. You can go to the beach or go mountain biking in Tahoe. The combination of available outdoor activities is really unparalleled in the US. And the weather! I would argue that (particularly Northern) California has the best weather in the US, yes better than Hawaii.

Obviously the traffic sucks. And I feel other states have friendlier citizens, although California is one of the friendlier states. Things are expensive (houses !!), but jobs pay crazy amounts of money compared to other states.

I have a love/hate relationship with California, but the love FAR outweighs the hate.
 
I have never been there. My wife loves the area.

I am also from Pennsylvania. I moved to Louisiana. In many ways, it was like a foreign country to me when I moved here. But I enjoy the adventure, and enjoy the differences. I suspect the Bay area is like any area - it has its plusses and minuses. For example, you have earthquakes. We have hurricanes. Which is better? Depends on if you were affected or not.

I have found that Louisiana has some things I truly love, some things that drive me crazy. Same with Pennsylvania. I suspect the same goes for S.F.
 
Born in Monterey and grew up most of my life in San Jose and I gotta admit that i dont think i can move anywhere else!

California basically has everything that you need. Besides reefing, I also have a drag car that I drag race. In the car forums with people from other states, they are limited to what they can do and what they can get as far as parts. Not much resources as we have here in CA.

As for the "other thread" I just think its dumb and petty on how it ended...
 
I do agree some states people are friendlier than here, but some states can be less friendlier than here. Back in Pennsylvania and Ohio, I can walk up to anyone and start a conversation. Here, the person may walk away. My wife says must be an illegal. :) It was strange at first, but now used to it.

Besides nature, the one thing everyone told me to do once I'm here is to go to Fry's Electronics. Back then, there was just that one store in Lawrence and Arques (yes, I'm old). I still like going to Fry's.

There is something for everyone here, no matter what your interest may be.
 
I bumped it up with my cubs fan comment. The thread is filled with a lot of ignorant comments. In my opinion, it sounds like a regular Sunday where a bunch of trailer trash rednecks hang around their truckbed turned into a hot tub and drink beers and make jokes. Pretty harmless until night falls and they get into their white robes.

I like the fact that we live so close to the ocean that I can run my reef tanks with filtered seawater
 
moved here a year ago from VA. Never been to SF prior, one day i had the opportunity to move here as a transfer for work, said sure why not and now i dont plan on leaving.

like others have said, the amount of activities to do here seem endless. Beach it up, or head to tahoe and shred some natural powder. Cant complain about weather, going from 4 seasons to really just nice breeze all year. People are very friendly and open here, people back east are usually grumpy.

the downside: everything here is expensive, esp if you're looking to own some property. I guess you have to pay to enjoy all the benefits.
 
Like DivingTheWorld, I dislike the politics, but I absolutely love the state. The cost of living here is terrible but I've been really lucky. I've been to the Philly area and thought it was like another world lol
 
Edit: oh we need to say nice things...

ummm it's awesome that temperature typically has lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s (San Francisco), and we are afforded the luxury of being whiny when the temp goes into the high 80s :D
 
OH and I love the food and the variety.

It's nice to get Mexican food and not be at a Taco Bell, it's nice to order a deli sandwich and not be at Subway or a Quiznos, it's nice to order Chinese food that does not have Sweet & Sour ANYTHING on the menu, and it's nice that if I wanted to I could eat out every day of the month and never eat the same type of food twice.

I can say this cause I'm asian, but I dislike how asian food is taking over the entire bay area. I live in Daly City and for decent Italian, Greek/Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, etc, I have to venture to SF or San Mateo.
 
From so cal here. Bay sucks. Only here for money and schools. Even though we're putting kids in private anyways do to overpopulation. My wife makes friends at church until she tells them her husband is a contractor. People and places to go suck here. The beaches are super depressing here.

I really miss San Diego!!

I'd leave to Oregon or Colorado in a heartbeat. Just a little scary since I'm so established here with 3 kids.

Sorry to talk down on this place. Just didn't really want to live in an overpopulated Asia. I see a lot more anger the more crowded it gets. And no one says please and thank you anymore. This area was a dream during the recession. Now all my back roads are filled up.

Cali is harsh. Said to say but my business and dealing with people in this area is making me harsh. Not to mention the sky is always grey now.

Either way hope everyone has a great weekend.
