OT Is mirrored Acrylic Reef safe.

I built a divider in my sump, using mirrored acrylic and cut out teeth so that it can over flow into the main sump. Anyone have experieces.

Sorry, forgot to mention its for a refugium in my sump. Was wondering if the salt water is going to react with the back and the cut out area of the acrylic.

It probably depends on exactly what sort of mirroring material is used.

In glass (and *some* types of acrylic) mirrors, they use a silver based solution that will break down in the salt.

Yeah, I was thinking of that and was considering coating the back with a layer of Weldon, with a roller.

Again, I'm not an acrylic expert (so someone can certainly correct me), but most acrylic cements (such as weldon) are not like paints, but rather work by melting the top few millimeters and then fusing with neighboring pieces. If you melt the surface, you may not be protecting it as well as you think ...

Do you know what brand the piece was? You could contact the mfg. Hopefully its mylar.

Since it is acrylic I would guess that the mirror material is mylar. Check and see if it is a film material that peels off.
