OT- Kicks for Guns

If you really believe that any criminal is gonna come in and trade a gun illegal or not in for a pair of shoes then i got some land for sale for ya cheap. The only criminals turning in a gun for shoes broke into someone's house the night before and stole it lol.

*applause for that one too!!!!!!*

I heard several people call in today. One had a sawed of shotgun that belonged to a family member. Another was a father that had a gun that his daughter had in her car after she was arrested for something (and was involved in bad stuff). So there were a few stories that sounded very legitimate reasons to turn in a gun that was no longer wanted.....

acro-ed. I want to come up and shoot with ya. I love shooting. I going to join the Eustis gun club cause its somewhat close to me but its REALLY nice. They have put some money into that range to make it nice.

Anyone with a gun that doesn't want it, or has no use for it can turn it in to thier local police department any day of the week, or maybe even sell it at a gun dealer or pawnshop. Shoes for guns is a HUGE waste of our tax money. Probably not one gun that had almost any chance of ever being involved in a crime will end up turned in. Just junk, and highly collectables that someone had no idea what it was.

I would imagine the shoes are being paid for somehow. My guess would be tax dollars. The guns are destroted even if they are collectables, so no money is brought back in.

You can't know that it wouldn't prevent a crime. With sponsors such as churchs and radio stations I'm sure its not exactly tax money going to waste. LEGAL guns DO get stolen, whether they're to be used in a crime or not there is the potential to get even a few off the street. Is that not enough? Or should we just not try at all whatsoever?

No tax money goes into this. Its a 104.1 thing and they get donations for all of it.

I did hear today they had 7 sawed off shotguns turned in. Thats good. But then I heard a guy that was interviewed and said he took his roommates gun and turned it in...I think that counts as a theft....

I am quite against these things. Like others have mentioned antique guns of high value are turned in there. They don't tell the people their gun is of high value, in fact at last years event, the same one that the spent launcher was turned in, one of the workers was bragging that one of the guns turned it was worth several thousand dollars.

So they took a gun (that could have been sold for several thousand dollars) without explaining the value to someone desperate to get a pair of shoes. Who probably only wanted the pair of shoes because they couldn't afford the pair of shoes.

Seems wrong to me.

has anybody watch the show "It takes a thief". several times there has been people with guns and the guy on the show steals it. even a police officer had some stolen. people do lock up thee guns in a safe but never bolt them down and he just takes the whole safe. you guys have to understand that this is aimed to getting unwanted guns off the streets with no questions asked. illegal or not wanted or not cheap or not collectable or not. someone on here will either have someone close to them killed by a gun that a person didn't want or did not how to use it, secure, load it, etc and that is just sad:( if people want them to protect themselves then i'm all for it with having kids and a wife but please don't put something down that might save there lives.

I keep all my guns locked in a safe that wieghs 900lbs with nothing in it. It takes a small army to move the thing lol. I'm thinkin there won't be anyone dragging it off. I do see people keeping such things in a safe that is nothing more then a carrying case lol.
This program is still just propaganda rather then a real solution. Let's try enforcing our laws and locking these morrons up instead of putting them right back on the street in 6 months tops. Make the punishment fit the crime instead of locking someone with an illegal gun up for a year or so and a guy who get caught with some pot or something 10 years. Maybe we would have a little less crime and less prison over crowding. Hmmmmm too easy?
