OT: Load balanced servers

Yeah, during the day is better, but still not at normal browsing speeds. I guess it makes it good while you're at work. You can click and go elsewhere and then back.

I wonder, since vBulletin is the shortfall, if RC could create multiple instances of it. Heck, create a vm with an instance for all the regional clubs. Should be no cost since they've got the horsepower in the hardware.

Well, has the vbulletin crew looked at the problem yet? It seems like they would be interested in keeping this amazingly popular and huge customer installation.

It is a know fact that less than speedy servers drive people away from websites and to other websites offering similar services. Still I agree that as long as this is the best (as it is), the right people stay.

I am surprised by the RC bothers with their own hardware. Amazon clouds (or similar services) bring the site close to the customer due to their distributed nature and I would have thought this is attractive enough for any latency related issues.

The Amazon cloud is fine for a lot of things. A very busy database isn't one of them.

I appreciate the ideas but honestly, there are only a few dozen people on the planet that run vbulletin installations this large. We certainly aren't the largest but we're big enough to have many of it's systemic issues. Unless you've got direct experience running a forum this large you really have no idea how dynamic a system it really is.

Cheers
