OT - Lock your cars in Lakewood/ Littleton

Just in case some of you live in the same area as me... Recently there has been a wave of vandalized and stolen vehicles in the area. How do I know? Because BOTH MY CARS WERE STOLEN! I was out of town for a month and came home to both my vehicles being gone.

After doing some searching I come to find out that many people in the south Lakewood north Littleton area have had their cars either broken into or stolen. My friend's apartment complex was told by Lakewood police to notify residents of problems in the area. I have one neighbor with a stolen car and another one with a car which apparently they couldn't start, so they gutted it. WATCH OUT!!

welcome to Denver! it sure isnt fort collins anymore! that is a bummer to hear Chris. i hope you get your rides back.

Ya quite a bummer. The real kicker is that I only had liability on both of them so no check from the insurance company :(

That will be a nice deduction as an uncovered loss if you itemize next year, probably the only silver lining though.

I live in Lakewood, but grew up in Detroit. My kids think I'm paranoid for insisting on locking cars and houses and making sure blinds are shut at night. Well, maybe I am a little paranoid, but people steal everywhere if you give them a chance.

My insurance agent is always trying to talk me into dropping the Comprehensive on our fleet of cars (currently 4, me, my wife and two daughters.) It doesn't take much to pay back years of that comp cost.

+1 I grew up in L.A. and have the same phobia's. My wife has now come to my way of thinking after someone broke into my garage and stole a lot of my tools. We are locked up tighter than ft knox and have a sophisticated alarm system to boot. I'll gladly pay that extra for the peace of mind..

Agreed! What is wrong with those insurance agents they get a bigger commission anyways! We have full coverage on all 8 of our cars... They're always trying to get us to try to drop our level of uninsured motorist protection... Yeah right. You can pay now or pay later. Full coverage ALL THE WAY.

You should have as much uninsured and UNDERINSURED insurance as you can afford, with as many people driving around this state unlicensed and uninsured as there are.

Also, a good umbrella policy for your own liability, especially if you have teen drivers. I hate insurance companies , but I also hate the idea of getting wiped out financially, a real possibility regardless of who is at fault in an accident. I've seen two cars with the rubber side up in the last week, and just come up to any four-way stop to see how many people can't even figure out how to get through that basic traffic obstacle, and tell me you aren't taking your life in your hands just running up to the corner grocery.

I'm also shocked that more agents never broach these subjects, it always seems to be me who brings it up.

I'm definitely getting full coverage on my next car. I guess growing up in south dakota and just coming from college I didn't really need to worry about (or afford) full coverage on two autos, now I wish I had switched when I moved down here... Everyone who finds out what happened tells me of how they'd be sooo angry and scared and this and that... I guess I'm pretty level headed b/c even though I'm upset I realize there's not much I can do at this point. Oh, and yes, they were both locked and had alarms too.

On the bright side I picked up an 81 suzuki gs450 for $750 to get me around in the mean time :)
