I have the Canon PowerShot SD550, and I really like the camera. We also have an underwater case for the camera. It's really easy to use and takes very nice pictures. I jujst verified that the code for the Canon PowerShot SD630 still works.

Minh - You the man with these coupon links!

I was eyeing the George Forman's grill though.... (as a gift!)

Yeah I was thinking more of a point and shoot camera. Its mostly for my wife who lost her purse with the camera in it.

Canon cameras have been our choice for some time now. So far they have not let us down. We have a point and shoot as well as a DSLR from them. HTH :)

For point and shoot, I'd highly recommend Kodak. I had the DX4530 (think thats the model) before upgrading to my Canon SLR. They take fantastic pics, IME.

I have used quit a few different brand of cameras, and there are good and bad cameras in just about every brand. However, I found the following brands tend to be quite good: Canon and Olympus. Nikon is a hit and miss. Never been impressed with Kodak. Sony makes some nice camera, but I hate the fact that they use a proprietary memory stick. I would be careful of ultra small camera. They tend to be so small that when you take a picture, the picture tends to turn on blurry.

I find that the review on Amazon are usually pretty good. If you want a more technical review, check out http://www.dpreview.com/ . I usually find amazon more useful because it's real world review. On the other hand, dpreview is very technical. Since I am not a professional photographer, a little distortion is unnoticeable to me.

Like I said - I have a Canon PS SD550, and I am very happy with it. It's nice and compact. The picture quality is excellent. Ergonomic is excellent.

Robert - too bad I didn't know earlier. They had a family size George Forman grill for $35 at amazon. But the deal ended on Friday night.

I'm not a camera buff, but my friends who are have used Cannon for years. The Rebel gets excellent reviews.

Note: a lot of internet retailers, primarily in New York don't have the US warranty and spec. Good to research the price then try to get a reputable dealer to match or come close.

There are a lot of very bad internet camera retailers out there, with "too good to be true" prices, on which the camera is in-stock only if you buy a bunch of really overpriced "accessories". As reef_doug said, some of these places are also Grey-Market importers. Canon/Nikon won't take these cameras in under warranty, instead you must deal with the store. This isn't a problem with reputable stores like Adorama or B&H (who also sell Grey market items, but market them as that explicitly), but for a shady internet outlet it means you're out of luck.

Dell is of course good, so is Amazon. On the upper end B&H Photo-Video and Adorama are good picks.
