Allow me to assist. Besides being a reef freak, I'm a 27 year experienced Ford Senior Master Technician. Your Crown Vic should have a bolt on flange at the rear of the driveshaft. The driveshaft flange is bolted to the pinion flange and you will need a 12mm 12 point socket or wrench to remove the shaft. The front of the driveshaft slips into the transmission, so after you remove the four bolts at the rear, you just slip the driveshaft out of the transmission. No snap ring pliers required. The easiest way to remove the spring retainers is with needle nose pliers or side cutters. After removing the spring retainers, the u-joint caps can be removed by several methods of force...u-joint press, hammer, hydraulic press. If you know how, a hammer works fine.
