Need someone that can help me change a u-joint in an 89 Crown Vic. Got lots of livestock or equipment to trade, or cash! PM for more info or phone number to contact us.

Thanks for looking!

Im no mechanic but I love learning, I can attempt on your car... I did change my spark plugs, wires, air filter, oil and oil filter before...LMK??

hey joe...how's it going? i want to learn to, but i think it takes a special tool to press the caps out. appreciate the offer though. you're more than welcome to come and learn also!!

i guess i should clarify this. we need tools. :D

Ive got a Hammer! Thank you LMK when its being done...

Its been good, getting alot of things done around the house. Hope all is great with u guys.

it may or may not be a snap ring on one or both sides. There may be just U bolts. Do you have a chiltons manual or have you been under the car to know what you are dealing with? I have had a decent amout of experience with old style fords (these cars are still old style technology).

No U bolts, will have to drop the entire drive shaft. It's really not that hard, just need the sockets. Still interested? lol...This weekend would be great. LMK

been a while since I was under acar but IIRC you will have two sides held on by bolts to the rear end and another two to the tranny. The 2 sides of both the front and rear on the dirveshaft are generally pressed or snap rings. Snap ring pliers are cheap so dont let that scare ya. In the day and age of internet Im betting you can find a site that will confirm what was used on 89's....... Good luck and take all my advice with a grain of salt, havent worked ina parts store since 1999, I think Im remembering right, but then again im not sure what I had for breakfast:)

I work all weekend (every weekend), but have a few days off next weekend. I dont know the type of setup that has bolts, but not u-bolts. I have pretty much any size socket in the back of my car and it should take just 30 minutes from the time you put the car in the air to be read to put it back. Let me do a little research....is it the front or the rear?

You are so right, I should check the internet! I fixed my wifes neon last nite that way! duh! Thanks for the advice!! Breakfast? Have we had that yet? :)

Thanks MFP..I'm going to do some research also. I think I'll need to do them both. I think I am going to get some tools from work and attempt it this weekend. But, if for some reason I manage to screw it up, I'll definitely give you a call!!! Thanks for the help!

no prob, I will see what I can come up with. Even a decent pic of both ends would tell me a lot.... its not a question of how they did it specifically for this car, but more what is the one of several ways driveshafts are connected.

Allow me to assist. Besides being a reef freak, I'm a 27 year experienced Ford Senior Master Technician. Your Crown Vic should have a bolt on flange at the rear of the driveshaft. The driveshaft flange is bolted to the pinion flange and you will need a 12mm 12 point socket or wrench to remove the shaft. The front of the driveshaft slips into the transmission, so after you remove the four bolts at the rear, you just slip the driveshaft out of the transmission. No snap ring pliers required. The easiest way to remove the spring retainers is with needle nose pliers or side cutters. After removing the spring retainers, the u-joint caps can be removed by several methods of force...u-joint press, hammer, hydraulic press. If you know how, a hammer works fine.

Ok, I know what kind you are talking about. I have always used D style screw clamps and a socket of the right size to press stuff like that back in! The rest of that I would need to get a visual of.

Well, I'm just about graduated from UTI. I wish I had the time to help you out. I love the opportunity to work outside the shop. Let me know if I cna be of any help!
