The Beer family spent some time at the Sacramento Zoo on Mother's Day. Here are a few pics. I was using a Tamron 200-500, hand held and often shooting through chain link so there are a few artifacts here and there.....

Wow, those are really nice! And you were using a Tamron lens, eh? Very sharp! Wonder why folks always warn me away from Tamron lenses....I don't see any problems; these shots are great!

Only minor problem I see is in the third picture of the third set. I can see where something in the fore-ground is causing problems.

It's got pretty good reviews: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=248&sort=7&cat=43&page=1

With the shield on, and extended to 500m, it's over 20" long. If you're trying to "not stick out" then this isn't the lens for you.

Oh no, I WANT to stick out! Keeps parents from letting their kids wander in front of me or push me out of the way to see the animals. I love it when Mrs. VR and I are out at the zoo getting shots with our DLSR's...we always use our longest lenses for the distance (80-200 for the D200, 70-300 for her Fuji S2) and it definitely helps to get attention. Mostly from folks who are also shooting or from folks who want better cameras. But I love it when I hear "honey, say excuse me please" or "Billy! Watch where you're going! That man is trying to take a picture!" I once even heard a lady scolding her daughter who bumped into me while I was setting up a shot...something about my camera being worth more than their car :D

Anyway....I really need a longer reaching lens and would like something that starts at 200. I've been eyeing a Nikon 80-400 on B&H because it's only like $1,500 compared to the lens I really want....the 200-400mm which rings in at $5,000. OUCH!

OH I love the Flamingo, the Zebra's and the Giraffe! Great pics Beerguy, I won't even tell anyone you escaped from the lounge.
