OT: My yard too

Thats what we will most likely use is a 50/50 mixture. We dont leave the horse field grow into hay height weeds. We keep it mowed.

My brother is making me up a batch of fairway mix and is getting me a cool type of mulch to put on after the seed. It looks green like the hydro seed, cheaper has a starter fert and looks better then straw.
It aure is nice having a brother that is the superintendent of a golf course.

I THINK it's common. Someone recommended that we get it too. Its much finer, ground up, usually a little more sand in it. Keeps the clumps to a minimum. Much easier to work with. Probably less dense though, more entrained air I would imagine.

I just seeded a bunch of areas where I work .. I never get to do things the way they are supposed to be done there though ...lol..I just tossed out some creeping red fescue and topped it with a bit of straw . I think all in all I shook out 10 - 12 bails of straw over the entire area I seeded ...

Normally , I would rototill , use a wrake to get out the rocks , roots etc... smooth it down with the back side of a garden wrake , toss the seed , 19-19-19 on it some lime Lots of lime grass loves it then take a leaf wrake and drag that behind me to get some dirt cover lightly over the seed .. After all that take out the straw and start sprinkling it over the area . Water , water , water , water and makes sure it gets watered regualarly till it starts to grow .. Then once it starts to establish take the straw back up ..:-)

So do you have a plan on the landscaping formanbob ? I have tried to use the computer programs but hell I can usually draw it out on paper faster than I can figure the programs out ...lol... It has been awhile since I have gotten to sit down and draw out formal designs .. I would deffinately recomend some kind of edging and Typar ( landscape fabric ) . Make sure it is typar brand by dupont , best stuff on the market in my opinion :-) I have used other brands and they just aren't as good ..

People don't realize how much work landscaping is till they start tearing into it . Are you goinna bring in some topsoil and build the landscape bed up to angle the water from the house ? Maybe make a circle mound at the corner with a weeping cherry perched on top ? lol....

order of things .. take up sod ... put in edging ( helps keep the grass from growing into the bed a big pluss and works great if done right .. Don't use cheap edging from wal mart though ... then bring in some top soil and mund the bed away from the house to encourage the drainage to go towards the yard ..Pack it in good as you build . Place the plants around the house make sure you leave room to grow and like the look .. Dig some holes , mix in some planting mix with the dirt ( nutrition to help start ) plant the plants , Lay down some typar ( pain in the arse without help ) and it never fails the day you put the fabric down is the day we have huricane force wind .. Just cut an X over the plants and tuck the corners underneath when you get it down .. Next lay the mulch or rock on to hold the fabric and pretty everything up :-)

Personally I like the lavarock . It is a bit more expensive initially than mulch but lasts so much longer and doesn't loose the color so quickly . Mulch is great but you have to always keep topping it off every year to keep the nice color ..

Oh yea I worked for a landscape company for 4 or 5 years then designed some on my own . I built a waterfall system in my parents back yard and landscaped around their house in '99 .. I had to wheel 3 dump truck loads of dirt to the back yard to build the waterfall area ... I should dig out some pictures to share of that ...:-) I have lots as that is the year I got this wonderful camera that I still use .... lol

I am going for japanes garden feel.

I will use lots of rock...

My borders will be mostly rock as well.

My fence will be a picture frame style made out of wood/ bamboo like this

I like the look of that fence ..
And lots of rocks are easy to maintain :-)
Ideas in your head are a good place to store them ....lol

Went to Lowes tonite. They have Trees 75% off due to the frost effecting the leaves. I am sure they will come back and they still have the full year warrenty on them.

Thnks for the heads up Sammie.

Yea trees are hardy , frost will kill the new leaves and bloom , but they will come back out with leaves .. Bloom on the other hand is lost till next year :-) 75% off trees is a good buy hope you got several

I have had to go to SLC twice now for work, but that has not stopped me....

This came the first trip to SLC.

My new walk, now all I have to do is replace the house.

Looking good! I REALLY like the walkway. Where did you get the soil and does it appear to be any good? I need to get about 7-10 yards (preferred dropped off) for myself and neighbors.

What on earth were the blocks in there for? Lazy cutting doing the foundation?

I tore out my front bed as well last weekend, and is directly linked to one of the reasons I will probably never buy another MI home. I pulled two full wheelbarrows of rock out of the top 3 inches of my small bed. And when I say "rock", I don't even consider anything less than 1" as a rock in this crappy soil.

I got my dirt from http://www.jonesfuel.com/ , and I love it. I was able to use 100% of it...

Who knows on the foundation, I plugged the bottom of the whole with hydraulic cement. Then filled all the cavities with cement, then put a nice cap on it with a taper. When I sold my Dominion Home I had to put the for sale sing in with a sledge hammer, The yard, beds, you name it, it was full of rocks.

Im a renter and have rented 3 different MI homes. they are horrific.

In one, I could go stare into my basement wall and see my yard outside.. it was only 5 years old.

The one im in now is 3 years old and i can set a marble on the kitchen floor and it will roll to the otherr side. so many other things too.. every single one has had the roof leak.. Ill never buy pre built

I just dont like the way they are laid out the most...the way the back yards are.. of course i keep on moving into them lol and biulding privacy fences....

I need to settle down and buy a house someday but the more i rent the pickier i get. :D
