Anyone know a good place or guy to get a Sirius radio installed and have my system checked out?

Long story short, got a new Sirius last year and they sent me a coupon for free installation but i had to go where they sent me. The place installed the new radio which shorted out in literally 30 minutes. They admitted the mistake and installed another one but i have had 3 more short out now in the last 3 months and now my AM doesnt work either. They keep telling me it's the Sirius receivers but i cant believe 4 different radios have all had the problem and not their installation.

I dont want anymore problems and want this new radio installed correctly and whatever the problem is fixed.

Anyone know a good guy to go to???

I don't know a place to do it, but I installed my own. What kind of car is it? I know on my car, it had to be ghettorigged into the car receiver through the antenna system (so I listen to my sirius through an FM station) but it's still hard wired (so I don't get any hissing or radio fuzz. The way I installed it, it made it so I no longer get AM radio stations. So depending on the type of installation they're doing, that could be why.

As far as the shorting.... I dunno. I guess they hard-wired the power into your car's 12v line. At some point I may do that, but right now I didn't want anything permanant done to my car, so I've just hiden the wire and used my car's 12v socket with a splitter, since I've got my sirius, my radar, and my phone charger, all hooked up into the 12v line.

Hope that helps....

It's a Mercedes and I would be very worried about being able to install it myself. Even in best case, that is not something that i would be comfortable doing. Considering there is already a problem that needs fixing, there is no way i can do it my self but thanks for the insight.

I've already spent the last 3 months not listening to Sirius but talking to their warranty department ad nauseum! I really want it done right this time so i dont have to keep fed-ex'ing broken radions back to Sirius.

Not sure what you mean??? I am NOT a radio guy:o

The Sirius receiver is on a dock and comes on and off if that answers your question

mercedes should be able to do it. and then if they mess up your car they'll fix it. lol

otherwise i'd have to say sound advice. i was big into car audio when I lived in chicago...but don't know any places down here. good luck!

mercades should be the ones to do it right the first time.

bishoptaner, this probably hooked into the head unit, but the head unit probably doesn't have any aux jacks or anything like that because it's an OEM. My volvo is the same type, and most european cars have the same deal. I'm not sure the installation process for the mercades, but they might link it into the radio signal like i was talking about (FM modulation) and the could have re-wired it back the wrong way because I'm sure it's not a simple process.

All these "luxury" european manufacturers use fiber-optic cabling between their radios and AM/FM reciever, CD player, etc which makes adding third party AUX jacks (for an Ipod or Satellite or whatever) dang next to impossible. Finally someone came out a few months ago with a fiber-optic reciever capable of being plugged into an ipod, satellite, or anything else, and it works in most of these previously unAUXable cars, but it's around $500. It's made by Denison.

Mercades may just have a simple way of getting it done, depending on the car year and head unit. I know my volvo has the same radio stack as the current year volvo, but they won't touch mine to add an Aux jack or satellite because it's not the same year, even though the radios are the same in every other way. Kind of frustrating.

Well, I wish you luck sir.
