OT: Need advice on new TV

I'm with Jay on this one. We have a panasonic 42" plasma (2 years old - about $750) and a 46 samsung LCD (7 months old 500 series - $700). The Samsung looks better in high def, sharper and brighter. the Plasma fairs better with regular def TV.

I stay behind the times and get the deals on the TVs. the samsung is the 500 model (lower end), I don't remember the refresh rate. compared to the expensive model the difference was negligible and once you take it out of the store away from the other TVs you will forget all about it.

Of all the TVs the samsung seems to take the cake. I was very disappointed with the Sony's.

We have the samsung 46"lcd 120 ghz and I rather of gotten the sony.
Overall its a great tv but has compatability issues. For example we own sony laptops and dowload free movies ,normaly you can plug the laptop into the tv but sony and samsung aren't compatable.

We purchased a samsung blueray player that says its wireless,its not wireless at all and is false advertisement.(goggle it you'll see) we returned it got a sony with future 3d netflix ,youtube ect..for 250 at sams club.

Samsung UN55C8000XF 55" 1080p 240hz led-lcd 3D capable. best looking TV made under $4000.00. I would say if your budget isn't that high go with Samsung UN55C6500VF great TV for bout 2500.00.

I'm going to stay away from 3D for now. I think that technology is going to take a couple years to mature.

I've been looking at the 2010 (UN55C) Series 6 as a good price point, but some of the 2009 (UN55B) Series 7's and 8's are out there for a good price (relatively speaking) as well.

Something to keep in mind...

It's easy to tell the difference in picture quality when you've got 10 TVs all lined up side by side. That won't be the case in your house, so picture quality should be of secondary importance. Don't get me wrong - you want a good picture, but don't kill yourself trying to decide between 3 really good pictures.

Ambient light in the room in HUGE. As stated before, plasmas tend to have MUCH more glare than other TVs. Anything that projects generally isn't as bright.

Build quality is important. The best picture in the world doesn't mean anything if the TV is broken.

*in my best Johnny 5 voice* INPUT! Anyone know the movie reference? But seriously, make sure the TV has enough inputs of the right type for whatever you're going to be hooking up.

I've got a projector in my basement that is very cool, but if picture quality is your primary concern, don't go that route. I've got a Samsung Series 7 that I love, and would buy another in a heartbeat.

I love my Series 7. The difference between the 7 and the 8 from 2008/09 is insignificant. Go with the 7 and save a couple of bucks.
