When I'm not being a vampire reefer (sucking the Life out of everything I touch), I'm a Director of Purchasing & Contract Management. (I buy "long" under negotiated Contracts for my employer, and I see legal docs every since day. My failsafe is our General Counsel. My advice is to do exactly what you're trying to do: Seek & gain Counsel.)
That said, this is a very Touchy Subject; Legally I mean.
More often than not, the employee doesn't have their facts straight and typically are more subjective and emotional over a termination and not up on the nuances regarding the statute. Corporations document everything (or at least the good ones do), so it's hard to make case against the employer by individuals.
Also, Tennessee is a "œright to work state".

So there are rights. :hammer:
If you think you have a case, see if an Attorney (who specialized in E.E.O., Equal Employment Opportunity HR, +/or outplacement law) will hear your plight, free of Charge (as a Consult "“ a "œdiscovery meeting", if you will); Then they can advise you IF they think you have a legal case. If he does, then you can talk remuneration and Payment terms. (But no Lawyer worth his salt is gonna waste his time if he doesn't think he can't win.)
Alternately, seek out a Para-Legal, who runs a fraction of the cost. If your case passes that litmus test, then you can pursue an attorney too.
I'll also talk to my friend for any further ideas or referrals.
Good luck!
