I know a great place that serves the cabs live!
damn, that was mighty helpful.

While it isn't Newport, there is a great place in Seal Beach that I love!!

Captain Jack's has the BIGGEST portions of king crab you have ever seen. It is right on one of the cannals, and almost everyone there is there for a B-day, or anniversary.

They use top shelf stuff in all their drinks, and also have one of the thickest prime ribs I have ever seen. Plus oysters, Mahi mahi, scallops, shrimp... whatever you want.

Plus they have about 6-8 fish tanks (Salt and fresh) in various locations around the place.

Billy's on PCH has GREAT fish, it's on the water near Villa Nova and Joe's Crab Shack. I was suprised at the quality of fish they have. Good Opakapaka (hawaiian snaper) is hard to come by in these parts, theirs is great. Ahi there is also excellent. I grew up in Hawaii eating exceptional fish, so there's my par.

I wouldnt recommend Duke's in huntington or the end ot NP pier(neither are a special place).
I cant imagine that Roy's went out of business!! They are a chain, also have several other locations in Ca & Hawaii. I think there are over 15 locations. Not waterfront, but if they're still there...great food and ambiance.

I second the recommendation to Jack's, it's an awesome place.

If you like Jacks, you'll love Harpoon Harry's just up the street from Jacks. Unbelievable steak and seafood and a quality selection of wines to go with......

my take on expensive meals on birthdays is...... 4 out of 5 (remember those dental commercials?) women usually prefers a picnic on the beach with a nicer jewelry present over an expensive meal with less nice presents. :)

I think if you buy her something equivalent to one or two month of your electric bill, she will remember that occasion for sure.

Omeg,
Remind me to pickup my paycheck from you tomorrow :) PS. Enjoy the table acro... Post some pictures. I already miss it :(
