OT: Opening pool

Does anyone have any tips on opening a pool, and getting the water from cloudy to clear?

I just open the pool Thursday night, and have put in Algaecide, Shockit, and clarifier. That water is starting to clear a little but it is still very cloudy. When you look in the pool magazines, they have 100's of thing that say try this it works great.. So was wonder what others use that might clear the pool up faster.

In ground or above ground? What type of filtration? How high is your clorine?

Is your pump on a timer? Run it 24 hours a day. If you put enough shock in it should clear up.

I switched off of clorine last year, I started using Biaquacil, I love that stuff so much better, what type of filtration system do you have?

i have a 20x40 in ground, i shock it, and run it..........period
24/7, keep checking the chlorine level, when filter starts running slow, backwash filter and run it some more
with my pool it usually takes 4-5 days if pool is really green when i first open it
as long as chlorine level is high over the first 4-5 days, that will kill everything and by running the filkter, that will clear up the water....and when pool is finally clear, vaccumn it to waste, fill pool if you have to, check the chlorine level and run it again.....the pool will clear up, the fine stuff will settle to the bottom, and you vaccumn again

I have found that I have calcium precipitation in my pool if I go to long without controlling the pH. If your pool is cloudy and white you might try adding one gallon of acid and then adjusting the pH the next day.

I am assuming you have a Marcite in ground pool.

Don't keep adding shock as it will cause it to be cloudy from all the calcium in the shock,just get the chlorine up to where it is supposed to be and run the filter 24/7 especially when it gets hot out.It may take a week to clear up.You might want to take your water to be tested and see if it needs stablizer,when stabilizer gets low your eat up tons of chlorine.Low ph will also make it cloudy,I use the 5 lb. boxes of baking soda to raise the ph.

Came home last night and the Pool was crystal Clear!!

I never thought about that with the shock.. We used to use about 5-6 gallons of bleach instead of shock and that always worked pretty good, but didn't try that this year.

thats what i used to do--dump bleach into the p[ool instaed of using chlorine--ended up bleachine the liner---went from a blue liner to a white liner, also used the bleach when i closed the pool....bad mistake
now, i wont use the bleach for anything, only shock the pool with 5-6 bags of shock, run the filter till pool clears, backwash filter to waste, fill pool if i have to, check levels and run filter only at night...gonna be getting the pool started up within this week

We got a new liner last year, and that is why I didn't use the bleach this year. But really we used bleach for years, and that liner lasted us 13 years, yeah a little faded but not bad. We replaced it because we thought it had a hole in it because we were losing water, but it turned out to be the skimmer box.
