I am pretty much finished building my rig here are my specs

- Evga x58 sli LE
- i7 920
- 1000 watt corsair
- 6gb i7 Dominator tri channel plus 3gb cheap ram
- nvidea 9500 Gt ($49) YAY!
- Looking into a SSD HDD not sure if its worth it though.

I am stuck when it comes to a video card. All these great ati cards came out in Q4 and a bunch of gap filling cards since then. The main reason i built this rig is to Play The old Republic when it comes out. Although this doesn't mean i wont dable in other games til then. Ive been looking at the radeon HD 5850 for around $320. But i would hate to spend $320 on a card then in two months a new wave of cards show up in the $500 range. So i guess my question is what should i do? buy a cheaper card for now that i can OC to the 5850 level or go for the 5850 or even the 5870. I know most of you reefers are gamers as well so i hope to get some good advice here.

OR Forget about the video card and get a sweet LED lighting fixture lol. I will probably do both anywayssss.

I don't see a point in an SSD at this time. I like that I can struggle to fill my $100 1TB HD for the next few years and buy a new one in 5 years for 50 bucks.

Wasteful to buy a card that you'll need to OC right away. The 9500GT is a pretty good card anyways. I got through Resident Evil 5 under decent settings and even MW2. I ended up upgrading to a GTX 275 because it was on sale, though. So I'd say stick with the 9500GT until you find a deal you can't pass up.

personally i love nvidia cards. I have to gtx260's SLi and love it.... you'll need a big case for the new cards though

Lets see a pic of the setup (case).
I'm building mind right now, started with a nice NZXT.
Power by AMD.
Very cool.

for my purposes the 9500 gt just does not cut it at all. I was also looking at the evga gtx 275 coop but the clock speeds and all around peripherals dont even come close to the new hd radeon 5 series. Maybe throw a 9800gt in there and sli the two?

I will post a pic when i get to work as it is my work pc atm )))).

I DL blue rays like crazy so i would not use the ssd for storage purposes only for operating system and to put the game i would be playing on there. It is suppose to run faster.

If you can afford it, get the SSD drive. It is definitely worth it imo. Just put your OS and other software application on there. Use another drive to store your movies. Not sure what is your price range for a video card, but look into the Geforce GTX 285. If it's ATI, I would get the HD 5850. I'm currently running crossfire with two ATI HD 5970.

yea Antec 1200 nice case, same thing as the 900 just a full size. I am really happy with mine, would be a good choice if you were to get.

If anyone here plays cs and would like to get in a few rounds pm me Thanks. Sorry to hitchhike the thread lol.

I am huge fan of RTS games and one of my favorites is the Comand and Conquer series and they are releasing a new game soon
only for the PC so I gotta get a newer system built. What is the Republic?
