That first pic is beautiful!!!! Dishtowels=backdrop??? I've been exploring your site. Some really sweet stuff.

Could you explain why you use the extension tubes and the 1.4x TC. I was looking at getting the 1.4x tc and 2x to get a little more range on my 70-200mm but I had no idea it could be used for macro as well.

A TC changes the lenses effective magnification without changing the minimum focusing distance. You can't use a TC to turn a 70-200 into a macro lens.

Extension tubes shorten your minimum focusing distance, allowing you to be closer to your subject, which increases magnification.

My 100 macro is already a 1:1 macro lens, by adding the 1.4TC directly behind the lens and then adding 68mm of extension I'm able get close to 2:1 magnification.

Yeah, I bought my set without really understanding this. So it didn't really help with close tank shots because all my stuff is to far back from the front glass. Oh well plenty of other uses though like you show above. Nice work BTW.

That splash of blue and orange inside the pettles on the first just pulls me right into the image. I like it :).

Thanks guys.

Very nice, Doug. How did you light them?

I was just using a small CFL light stand.

Basically, one of these.
