That would be really cool, because then we can setup different targets at different yards, and we could use silouettes to shoot at, for some reason alot of ranges don't allow you to use them as targets. I still have to call the Sycamore one and get the info on that one to see how long and what not. But if we could do something like that, I have been to the range several times and I think everybody that owns a gun, for the most part, knows good safety, like always having the gun pointed down range, safetys on etc.... We just have to setup targets, then all get positioned and begin firing, and then wait till everyone is done to get check em out. That would make a good video, get a bunch of AR's out there. I am also picking up a DPMS SASS this spring with a 24" barrel, SASS - Semi Automatic Sniper System, I am gonna set it up as my sniper rifle, would be perfect if I get it before then so I can sight it in if we do it.

I was just out at the Sycamore Sportsman's Club a couple weeks ago. Everyone there is very friendly. I'm not sure of the size of the ranges since i'm usually skeet shooting when I go.

BTW, does anyone own a SAKO Finnlight Rifle? After antelope hunting in Montana I checked one of these out at a local store and the operation was smoooth as butter! Hoping to hear if it is as good as it felt in the store

From what a fellow worker told me, its a Sportsmans Club, so for the people that join the club its available during the week and weekends, but if your not in the club its open to the public on weekends only and I think it was $30 for the day for non-members.

You will most likely have to go private but yes off the top of my head is the Aurora Sportsmens club. http://www.aurorasc.org/

They have a 600 yard range and you can shoot up to a .50 cal that was put in to host the 2016 games if Chicago was picked.

That is the only one I know of in the area. I personally have not shot there yet but will be looking into joining/shooting matches.

If you want to go longer than 600 yards..............most likely you will have to get on someones land out of state. I just hope if you plan on going longer you have a lot of experience behind you......it is a huge responsibility knowing what is in front of you when you are on private land with any distance shot you take.

I was just looking and it's going to cost you $630.00 your first year at ASC plus 10 hours of volunteer labor to the club.........got to pay to play I guess.

Thanks for the info. 600 yards would definitely be good for now. My brother had some property and we'd set up AR(armored)steel plates 200 yards out. As cool as it is to watch the same bullet hole get a little wider and a little more misshaped each shot, I'd like to challenge myself a little more and get closer to my goal of a 1000 yard shot.

I've always had to pay to play, so that's not so bad.. You get what you pay for. Usually..

Know anyone that knows someone on a farm? You could set up whatever distance you wanted, and as long as you weren't shooting any animals without the proper liscense and season you'd be ok.

I was doing that with 200 yard shots. I don't know of any farms where it would be safe to pull off 600 or so yards. There would be room for it, but I don't feel its a safe/responsible place to shoot...

Apparently there was an issue over my suggestion of bump firing. Thats not an illegal modification it's rubberband and a shooting technique. And the people I referred to shooting the full auto, most of the time they are cops. (SWAT)

Bump firing IS NOT ILLEGAL. Like previously mentioned, it is a firing technique. You can bump fire a .22 if you want.
