We have massive amount of crickets and also some roaches. and few ant hills.
as for the pool, I get home late. its near dark by the time im home. weekends is the only time I have to spend time with it. to me just seems worth the cost of someone else doing it.
Pool company's come once a week. Enough said. I had one for awhile. It's a waste of money. Just keep chlorine in it. And once you learn how to clean the filter that's all you need.
If you have have crickets you probably also have some of the predator insects such as spiders ( If I see wolf spiders I leave them alone they are harmless and a good predator) and scorpions
I use Cyper WP and a sprayer that can be bought at Loews or HD
I would spray the inside of the house first than the outside, if you do the outside first it could drive the insects inside your house.
Good luck with the pool, I will never own another one again, count on removing and cleaning the filters after the monsoon season, its a good idea to cover the pool during the monsoon you will get a lot of debris
Check out Suspend SC for the bugs. Been using it for years hell i think 1 bottle cost about the same as 1 service trip and last about a year if not more. It was recommended to me by a local Bug and Weed store.

I have a similar schedule and I'm out of town a lot on top of that. Regardless, if you can maintain an saltwater set up, the pool is much easier. I found that this website really made it a breeze: http://www.troublefreepool.com/category.php?c=getting_started
If you get a decent test kit, an automatic cleaner and add chlorine as needed (per the decent test kit) you'll have a nice looking pool all year round.
