OT- Reef Riders, Sept. Ride

OK Reef Riders, I was thinking of going up to Leesburg for lunch and back. Say on the 22nd of this month. Just a quick little run there and back, with a burger and a soda to get us back. Sound good?

Reef Riders is just a few of us with motorcycles that like to get together and hit the road once a month. All are welcome to ride with us. No dues, fees or rules. We only ask that you at the least, wear a helmet, but it is your decision to make. And of course, ride safely.

Sure would be nice to see a few more people ride with us!
John.

Would I have to wear a helmet if I were riding in a car? ;p JK hehe

The weather is getting nice for something like this but unfortunately I do not have the (male parts) to get on a bike with the crazy drivers I see on the road :(

Chrisstie, with all the crazy drivers out there, you may want to wear a helmet in your car. We would love to have you drive your car and go along.

AJ, no place in particular as of yet. Any recomendations? If you know of someplace good, you could take us there.

chrisstie, you don't need any male parts to go for a ride. Brains have nothing to do with it.

Perhaps "guts" should have been a better word ;p same expression ;p I don't even like riding on kevins Vespa i just feel too exposed and like I could fall off at any time.

My folks take their folks to doctors in Leesburg a lot I'll see if they're familliar with any neat digs over there. Unfortunately I'm more familliar with the Clermont area

Jean and I are supposed to go on a "Mystery Lunch Ride" with the Cruisers.
I'll see if we can change our plans.......or maybe I can persuade the gang to go with us.....

If so - we go to a great place on Lake Weir called Gator Joe's.
It's a bit north of Leesburg but well worth the ride.

I'll see you tomorrow, we can discuss it then.

Nick

I am - the Cruisers are meeting up in Sandford - Jean's not too thrilled on riding almost 40 miles before the ride even starts......

Let's touch base and see what we can come up with.

Gator Joes is pretty cool - but we've been there a bunch.
I'm always open for some place new.

Some place new? I have lived in Clermont for over 3 years now, and I have never been to Leesburg! It is all new to me up there. LOL!!!

What about Dead River Vics in Tavares. Take 19 to 441 and turn left, DRV will be on the left, on the water. I think the name has changed but we always enjoyed going there when we lived in Clermont.
Matt & I won't be able to make it. He's going out of town this weekend.
We'll have to catch you on the next ride.
Have fun and be safe :)

I've lived in MOunt Dora for 4 years now and i have hardly been to Leesburg lol. I avoid it like the plague. The only good thing in Leesburg is thier bike fest, it blows Daytona away IMO. I have been told that Takis in Leesburge is awsome for Italian/ Greek food. I eat at the one by my house atleast once or twice a week, but i never been to the one in Leesburg. I've been told that if i ever go there i will never go back to the one here because it is that much better. I think the one here is one of the best places in Florida to eat. They have pizza, lasagna, gyros, greek salads, and subs. The one in Leesburg is at 13761 US 441, lady lake. Just barely north of Leesburg.

OH, and when you get to the construction in Leesburg by the airport, watch your speed very close, the Leesburg police are watching if you're not you can bet on it. From the time you pass Lake sumter college and Lowes on north they are thick and sneaky too lol.

Another good ride up in this area for a lunch or snack kinda quick ride would be Yalaha on HWY 48. There is a German bakery/deli right on the HWY that is great and a way nicer ride than going into Leesburg. They have outdoor tables too. A little pricey, ( not bad ) but worth every cent.

Thanks for the tips!

Jean and I go to Yalaha regularly. It's a very nice ride thru Montverde and the backroads and around Sugarloaf.
Too bad the developers found it......another couple years and it will all be gone.

Personally - I think Gator Joes will be a good ride - good FL food in an atmosphere that can't be beat.
The place is built up over the lake with a large deck and beach area. Always plenty of sights to see :D

Takis is a nice one (good food) real Greek food, though it is real crowd in the weekends. We should avoid 441 and stay on 27 better ride. Also we can do sr50w>sr19>sr27N (nice country rds)

If you are going down 27 in Leesburg and see The Leesburge Pet Center, keep on riding lol. They have some nice display tanks, but i wouldn't buy a snail from them. Thier acclimation procedures are sad. I have been in there when the order came in, and they just open the boxes, open the bags and pour the contents into a net, and straight into thier main system. They also are the kind of place that will sell you a parrot fish for a reef tank to make a sale. They either know nothing or just don't care. Judging by how nice thier displays are, it's the later of the two. A friend of mine here had just bought his first fish for his system (from them), and asked me to come over and show him how to properly acclimate it. I went over, and he had a large yellow tang (for his 20g), and it had ich all over it still in the bag.

Well we certainly have alot of places to eat at! So let's say we meet up about 10:00 AM? Where at?
AJ, if you are going, you will be coming fron Groveland, right? Nick is coming from Windemere. Doug, how about you? Coming down from where you are to join us? Or meet us on the way?
I am in Clermont, sort of in the middle. Wanna meet at my place? We can head thru the back roads right up into Montverde and go from there.
John

I wish i could. It will be a few more months before i am able to get out for much of anything. We are in the middle of adopting our 2 grandkids, and because they are basicaly state property right now, they can't be left with sitters without an FBI background check. It's a big mess but will be over by the end of the year and then we can get on with living again. Until then, my life consists of diapers, bottles, and social workers that can't walk and chew gum at the same time.
