Sunday afternoon I was involved in an accident that totaled my van, a person pulled out in front me and I hit her at about 30 mph. Everyone is ok except for shoulder belt bruising and minor abrasions.

The worst part is I had just picked up two tanks one a 125 the other a 110 both deystroyed in the accident. They were used and I had paid about 400.00 for both. The big question is will the insurance give me what I paid ( a very good deal ) or what the tanks cost to replace. The 125 was an Oceanic the 110 an AGA.

I would like to know where I stand when it comes time to settle on the car and contents.

Thanks

I had somewhat the same thing happen to me. I was hit and i had my golf clubs in the back, bent a couple of clubs and after talking to insurance it was either some cash or replacement. Replacing my set was about 1200 bucks or cash wouldve been about 500. I obviously replaced them. Im sure it will work out the same for you, just make sure to play your cards right, bending the truth on certain things might help!

If it wasn't your fault then I would think there insurance company should cover replacing the tanks. I doubt they have the resources to find used ones so I woould guess you will be getting 2 new tanks. If they ask for replacement price, quote them the cost of the new tanks.

If the Ins Co doesn't give you enough to buy New, they have a responsibility to find similar used tanks, with in a reasonable distance for you to buy with the reduced amount. If they can't do that, they are required to replace.............I think ;-)

Why does the Insurance company have to know that you just purchased the tanks used off of someone? I could have swore you said that they were your tanks that you purchased new a couple years ago and had them in storage at your friends house and was finally just getting around to setting them up again....:D

I would take photos of the broken tanks.
Price out two reef ready new Oceanic tanks delivered to your door and be done with it.
Worry about what they will or will not cover once that shoe falls.
Chances are great nothing more than a confirmation phone call of what they were and a vendor quote will be all you will need to be concerned with.

What if someone had given you the tanks? Does that mean they wouldn't compensate you for their value because you paid $0? They should take care of you....worst case, they cut the price of new by a nominal x% because they were used.

all that glas came from a 500 gallon zero edge..... hey where in the heck did all you ballasts end up? huh they were in the car.....

my daughter hurt herself at a friends and they turned it into homeowners(i told em not to.....)

never asked a question when I sent the bills in except "hows she doing?" was surprised. 1st time ever dealing w/ insurance
